    The Senior Materials and Process Engineer is responsible for development of new manufacturing processes, parts, materials and assemblies capable of meeting the company’s technical performance objectives, as well as cost, capacity, lean and other manufacturing objectives. 

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

    • Plan and execute engineering activities supporting process development, including evaluation of potential processes, materials and equipment; build prototypes; prototype processes; design engineering experiments (DOE); and use structured decision-making methodologies
    • Select and specify manufacturing processes, equipment and materials
    • Transition new processes to manufacturing, including process installation, process characterization, data collection, analysis, and yield improvement; track and improve process capability; and set up process control (SPC)
    • Document results through reports and white papers, process specification, procedures, etc.
    • Hands on operation of equipment, training of technicians and equipment operators

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in process development or process engineering resulting in robust manufacturing processes
    • Demonstrated ability (through design examples, patents, publications) to think outside the box and apply unique, novel, and/or non-traditional methods, materials, processes, and design concepts
    • Ability to develop processes and materials for building non-traditional structures and assemblies
    • Ability to apply basic first principles models of proposed new processes and product configurations to predict potential suitability and issues for manufacturing and field use
    • Ability to develop processing and building methods using 3D printing, coating technology, fasteners, adhesives, welding, bonding and lamination processes, plastics, composites and composite processing, assembly and self-assembly methods and techniques, photolithography, printing and related coating processes
    • Ability to identify suppliers and strategic partners
    • Ability to work with suppliers and partners to design, develop and procure strategic processes, parts and materials
    • Experimental design using statistical software such as Minitab, JMP, or equivalent
    • Statistical process control methods and design of experiments
    • Competency in Solidworks
    • Communication including verbal and written communication, the willingness to discuss questions or uncertainties in job assignments and to be able to interact with co-workers positively
    • Technical knowledge of assembly and processing techniques, materials, cleaning, adhesion, patterning, bonding, metrology, etc.
    • Ability to communicate information using standard Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Office, PowerPoint, Project and Visio
    • Ability to use company-wide tools and systems to execute the key duties and responsibilities of the job

     EDUCATION

    • B.S. from an accredited institution in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Physical Electronics or related field.
