    Job Description

Theia's development team is growing rapidly. Last November we officially launched our first software product, Optim, which provides a sleek and easy-to-use interface for Unreal Engine users to speed up and automate their 3d visualization workflow. As we scale our market reach and product offerings, we need a Director of Engineering to help translate the company's vision into actionable items and tangible results for the technical team. The ideal candidate is someone who has a proven history of successfully bringing software products to market and defining both the technical and hiring requirements for the development roadmap. You'll be directly managing a small team of 6-8 developers, removing barriers, running scrum sprints, and coaching them in their technical and professional growth. We're looking for a working manager who can sit down alongside the team and help implement features, including contributing to the code. We estimate that in the early days of this job, around 30% of your day will be spent working on the codebase itself. As we double the size of the development team in the next 3 months, you'll be pivotal in helping to identify our needs, qualify candidates, and onboard new engineers. During this growth stage of the business, your opinions and suggestions will fundamentally shape the future of Theia's software development practices.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Report to and work with the CTO directly

    • Work with product managers to establish goals and milestones for the software, both functional and technical

    • Connect the dots between current product offerings and future ideas

    • Check in with engineering  team daily to keep a pulse on progress

    • Hire all needed  positions within the engineering team, with collaboration and assistance of the CTO

    • Define and maintain the company's best practices in regards to DevOps, QA, Sprints, etc.

    • Run 1-on-1 meetings with engineers to foster professional growth

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need to have experience working in both small and large teams. You must be comfortable working closely with junior engineers and getting your hands dirty. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to bring a software product to market and to ensure the usability, stability, and flexibility of the product for years.

    ESSENTIALS:

    • 10+ years of experience building and shipping high quality code and software products

    • Proficient in agile methodologies and experience leading and shaping Scrum processes

    • Experience in building and maturing engineering teams and infrastructure in a startup environment

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
