Interlune is a space resources company based in Seattle, WA. We will provide resources from space to power a clean and sustainable economy on Earth and in space.

We are looking for a Doer who wants to join our early-stage team and accelerate humanity's progress toward an off-world future. Our engineering team combines expert knowledge of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, automation, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced fabrication to build the infrastructure that will create an in-space economy. To join our small team, you must be agile, willing to learn, and able to take on multiple roles as needed.

This role will report to the Vice President of Engineering and lead the thermal/fluids analyses on our core technologies, including liquefaction and gas separation systems design, as well as environment definition for our space hardware.

Applicants from all industries are welcome, with particular emphasis in complex, multi-disciplinary system development. Familiarity with and prior experience in the space, agriculture, construction, or mining industry are valuable but not required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct complex thermal and fluids modeling to support cryogenic liquefaction and separation system design.
    • Conduct thermal analysis and define/manage environments for spacecraft missions.
    • Provide analysis support to the design team, and in support of proposals and government contracts.
    • Participate in hardware development from concept development through the design, analysis, prototype, test, manufacturing, and operational phases.
    • Work closely with other members of the team to integrate design requirements and to optimize designs for rapid manufacturability.
    • Analyze and track key performance metrics throughout the product lifecycle and continually assess new designs to optimize for manufacturability, quality, and cost.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related technical subject area.
    • 5+ years of experience with one or more fluid or thermal modeling tools is required (e.g., SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, Flow3D, CFD++, ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB/Simulink or other commercial codes).
    • Proficiency in analyzing multi-phase fluid flow and heat transfer in cryogenic systems.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
    • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.

    Desired Qualifications and Skills:

    • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related technical subject area.

    • Experience with data analysis and model anchoring to test data
    • Practical hands-on experience building hardware, including integrated hardware/software systems.
    • Familiarity with common manufacturing methods (machining, welding, hand and power tools, etc.) and cryogenic fluid systems (pumps, heat exchangers, condensers and phase separators) as it relates to the physical modeling and simulation of hardware.
    • Experience working on an in-space mission, preferably on a planetary mission with surface operations.
    • Basic proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (NX, Solidworks, or equivalent)
