  • Responsibilities

    The Opportunity

    • Brand-new global Advanced Technology Center for the ophthalmic industry currently being established.
    • Lead development of novel optical films and laminates, including existing and next-generation lamination processes; specifically roll-to-roll.
    • Subject matter expert for roll-to-roll coating methods (slot die, gravure, dip, bar), solution preparation and finishing.
    • Hands-on role, with technical project leadership; lots of opportunity for growth with potential for team leadership.

     

    Specific activities and responsibilities

    • Lead development of novel optical films and laminates including product development trials.
    • Individual contributor collaborating with international team of researchers and business teams as part of a new product development process
    • Assist with trouble shooting production coating and lamination process.
    • Design coating formulations, laminate construction and ancillary products.
    • Assist with studies on the interaction of laminates with lenses.
    • Review literature for new paths of exploration.
    • Contribute to creating and protecting IP.
    • Lead initiative to bring existing lamination capability in-house and support the startup of equipment and process (first 1-2 years)

     

    Requirements

    MUST-HAVES:

    • M.S. or PhD. In technical or engineering field: preference Materials Science, Chemical Engineering/Chemistry, Physics.
    • 5+ years industrial (i.e. non academic) experience in R&D/Product Development & scale up including experience with roll-to-roll equipment for coating and lamination processes: you understand the “science of the system” from formulation to materials to processes.
    • Demonstrated experience in coating technology including a range of wet coating techniques (slot die essential)
    • Working knowledge of analytical techniques, including photo-spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis.
    • Strong communications skills at all levels, including providing guidance to technicians and engineers and ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences (internal and external)
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc…), Minitab, Matlab
    • Travel up to 15%.Includes international travel, predominantly Asia.

     

    DESIRED

    • Experience with Optical Film highly preferred.
    • Experience with lens technology and optics.
    • Experience with the analysis of polarized systems, e.g. ellipsometry
    • Experience with optical modeling software.
    • Experience with rheological studies.
    • Experience with DOE methodology.
    • Experience with a QMS.
    • Experience with SolidWorks.
