    Thompson First Group is currently seeking a Chemical Buyer for a local client in York, PA. Candidates who have a chemistries background and experience working within supply chain are encouraged to apply.

    Overview of position:

    • Know, measure, and drive to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators.
    • Develop and deploy procurement strategies that provides security of supply, timely delivery, and cost competitive materials of appropriate quality.
    • Ensures business continuity, governance and management for all types of supplier risk, through Alternate Materials / Sources, Supply Agreements, Relationship Management.
    • Analyze market structure, trends, technical developments and regulatory trends that impact competitiveness and/or affect availability and delivered cost of materials and services.
    • Own negotiation of contracts and supply agreements.
    • Communicate the supply management risks and opportunities to all levels within organization.
    • Maintain and manage high level relationships with strategic suppliers. Schedule & Facilitate Scorecard reviews.
    • Be an active and engaging participant in the strategic shift from transactional purchasing to a relationship/partnership based advanced sourcing & procurement team.
    • Interact with R& D to source raw materials to support the innovation and scale-up of new products, and alternatives for Risk Mitigation.

    Job Specifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant discipline is required
    • 5+ years of specialty chemical sourcing or supply chain experience
    • Prior 1-3 years relevant experience of adhesive technology, formulating, purchasing chemicals required
    • ASCM / APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred
    • Knowledge of basic chemical plants, major manufacturers, and of the factors that influence applicable commodity markets and prices
    • Previous experience in negotiations with suppliers, and in building relationships
    • Must be reliable, have a positive attitude, and have a passion for excellence
    • Superior teamwork skills and proven ability to collaborate with others
    • Ability to effectively present and communicate throughout the organization
    • Results oriented, demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding commitments
    • Bias for continuous improvement and problem resolution
    • Advanced computer proficiency (Oracle, MRP, ERP, Power BI, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, e-sourcing tools etc.)
    • Exceptional analytical skills and problem-solving ability
