    Job Description

    This position reports to the Project Manager for Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training-RI, and is responsible for the planning, coordination, development, and vision and focus of the Crisis Intervention Team RI program. This position acts as the link amongst behavioral health providers, consumers, CIT International, and law enforcement within Southern RI. Required Qualifications:

    •Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field

    •Provide own reliable transportation with proof of RI minimum requirements of auto insurance

    •Commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusion, and anti-oppressive perspectives

    •The ability to evoke confidence and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, including senior leadership

    •Ability to think critically and solve problems

    •Ability to work independently

    •Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    General Responsibilities:

    •Work to enhance and expand Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) in police departments in Southern RI.

    •Responsible for the formation, management, and coordination of regional CIT Steering committee meetings.

    •Coordinate and conduct CIT Training for all levels of Law Enforcement including but not limited to:

    •Basic CIT

    •CIT-Telecommunications

    •Advanced CIT

    •In-Service, Conferences, and refresher classes

    •CIT Coordinators Course

    •Acts as a liaison between Thundermist, CIT BH Coordinator, NAMI-RI, area mental health providers, family members, consumer’s, law enforcement and the National and State CIT Coalitions.

    Other Job Duties:

    •Develop and maintain a wide variety of instructors to meet the needs of the CIT Program.

    •Work directly with Thundermist and other subject matter experts to revise and further develop the CIT training curriculum to meet the needs and demands of the community, mental health and law enforcement agencies involved in the CIT program.

    •Attend statewide CIT Steering Committee meetings.

    •Maintain relationship with NAMI for all CIT-related activities.

    •Conduct/coordinate/facilitate for all CIT training classes and others, upon request.

    •Prepare all training announcements, schedules, class materials.

    •Coordinate travel accommodations for out-of-town instructors.

    •Compile evaluation results of the feedback from the CIT classes.

    •Maintain accurate tracking system of all CIT Officers by class and by police agency, as well as contact information for all CIT liaisons.

    •Prepare and submit reports as needed regarding CIT.

    •Assist in the recruitment of additional law enforcement agencies for training.

    •Assist with the development and expansion of the CIT Program to include, but not limited to policies and procedures, co-responder police clinician CIT model, etc.

    •Establish a network and link the police and the community in focusing on common goal of safety and create understanding and service to individuals experiencing mental illness/substance abuse and their families.

    •Educate community organizations and the public on CIT Program by developing and conducting presentations in the community and for partners statewide.

    •Develop and conduct presentations for local and national events/conferences, as opportunities arise.

    •Serve as the Law Enforcement Liaison to assist police agencies, mental health receiving facilities, and vulnerable populations regarding mental health community resources.

    •Attended CIT International conference annually.

    •Attend CIT “Train-the-Trainer” training in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    •Pursue regional program certification from CIT International.

    •Maintain CIT Coordinator certification.

    •Maintain and distribute a CIT newsletter to share with CIT officers and CIT partners.

    •Seek and pursue state and federal funding opportunities, with approval from senior management.

    •Pursue local, sustainable funding streams, with approval from senior management.

    •Maintain current grant funding with timely reporting.  

    •This role is hybrid work role, as employees work will be completed partly in the physical workplace, and partly remotely in a general office environment.

    •Frequent regional travel to meet the needs of the program

    •General office environment: manual dexterity needed for keyboard work, writing and phone calls.
