    POSITION SUMMARY: Data Associate will work to support the data needs of our community-based, volunteer-driven organization in Michigan. This role will be central in assisting the Data and Research Manager in advancing Detroit Action’s issue campaigns, corporate accountability and electoral strategy for 2021 and beyond. The Data Associate will assist in providing necessary data resources to the state team including data management,  technical staff support, adapting procedures, and VAN administration. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Assist in day to day operations of the canvass including turf cutting, mapping, data syncing, data entry

    • Assist in implementing procedures for efficient data management and reporting;

    • Present day to day metrics as needed

    • Assist with coordination of daily data operations to support the organization with a focus on how data can be used to help build a robust volunteer organization & infrastructure;

    • Work with Data and Research Manager to understand the analysis of data and present it to the team

    • Use analytics to improve our messaging, programs and campaign to strengthen impact

    • Support & train organizing staff and member-leaders on VAN/Votebuilder and other digital and data tools;

    • Assist the Data and Research Manager in maintaining the quality of the organizational tools (CRM, databases, digital communication) and integrations between them

    • Support other data team projects as necessary

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Work in close partnership with officers and senior staff to help develop innovative, impactful and strategic campaigns that will drive future membership growth and be adaptable to future trends;

    • Work with senior staff to identify, define, and track priority metrics;

    • Collaborate with Communications team using data in innovative ways to engage people;

    • Explore new data sources and new innovations, determining which are most strategic for overall goals and how best to incorporate, both internally and externally

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • 2 plus years of experience in community, electoral or labor organizing methods.

    • Previous experience managing VAN and voter file data for large-scale civic engagement programs

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    • Commitment to social and racial justice

    • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to organize complex ideas for others to understand 

    • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, and other database software.

    • Broad strategic vision that encompasses base-building, coalition-building, public policy, communications, electoral organizing, and collective action.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 

    The Data Associate reports to the Data and Research Manager and works collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors and other partners on a weekly basis to maintain program efficiency. Detroit Action and Michigan Action are projects of Tides Center and Tides Advocacy._ _

    SALARY:

    The salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $45,000-$55,000. 

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

    • The position is a temporary full-time position that works 35 hours per week
    • This position is based in an office building in Detroit, MI
    • The position will be required to work some weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
    • The position may require national travel up to 100% of the time
    • The assigned workspace is a cubicle in an open and shared work area with a moderate  level of noise and interruptions
