    Job Description

    REMOTE PHP DEVELOPER

    Are you an old school web developer? Do you want to work from home and be part of a team that values things like stability, ownership, and logic? If you answered yes to those questions, this may be the job for you. Our client is looking for a Web Developer who has a great deal of proficiency with PHP and some experience with PostgreSQL. You will initially work alongside our Senior Web Developer and learn the existing codebase. As you become confident within that codebase you will be assigned bugs, feature requests, and other projects surrounding our various web applications.

    This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering and has the potential to become a senior developer position in a short period of time.

    The PHP Developer will be an expert in authoring, maintaining, and modifying code attributed to various web technologies. In carrying out their duties, this individual will be the primary contributor with regard to implementing new automation, creating programs, routines, and sub-routines related to internal and external facing websites/portals, documenting existing and new programs, scripts, and programming related items and conducting quality audits on code utilized in our client’s environment.

    Additionally, the PHP Developer will serve as a Tier III escalation point for customer issues on the client’s customer and administrative portals, assist the Director of Engineering in carrying out his duties during periods of his absence, and other duties as assigned.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Maintain, update, and author code that is primarily PHP Investigate, test, and implement best practices surrounding architecture, usability, performance, and security of web applications
    • Identify and fix CSS, HTML, Scripting, and SQL compatibility issues for internal and external customers utilizing our web applications
    • Stay abreast of current programming practices and web technologies
    • Collaborate with various internal teams on desired enhancement to web applications

    QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

    • Proficient in PHP, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, AJAX, CSS, and HTML
    • Able to make and own mistakes Basic Linux command line ability (references to Open Source philosophy will play well)
    • Ability to work independently with very little oversight Ability to diplomatically indicate certain requests are asinine, short-sighted, or otherwise ill-advised
    • Typing speed of 40 wpm or greater (corrected for accuracy)
    • Familiarity with Slack, PostgreSQL, and SVN preferred
    • Experience with REST and SOAP APIs
    • Ability to read, digest, and work with various forms of documentation
    • Excellence in written communication At least marginal ability with oral communication NGINX and Apache familiarity preferred
    • Familiarity/experience with Python are a plus Ability to laugh at self, memes, Microsoft, and people who use fax is required

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

    • 5+ Years of development work required
    • Must have experienced more than one colossal failure/outage (preference given to those who caused the issue and remained employed)
    • Has learned that “Full Stack” developers are a myth
    • Can provide evidence of self-education that is recent and has been consistently maintained over a period of at least 2 years
