Job Description:
This position is responsible for welding, fabricating, and assembling components using TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding processes on thin-gauge materials in a shop environment. The TIG/MIG Shop Welder will produce high-quality welds on precision parts while maintaining strict attention to detail, safety, and workmanship standards.
Responsibilities:
- Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on thin materials such as sheet metal, tubing, and light structural components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Set up welding equipment, select proper filler materials, gases, and machine settings for thin material applications.
- Fabricate, assemble, and weld parts according to specifications and tolerances.
- Produce clean, high-quality welds with minimal distortion and burn-through.
- Perform grinding, fitting, tacking, and finishing work as required.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform minor repairs and modifications to fabricated parts as needed.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in clean and safe condition.
- Follow all shop safety procedures, including PPE usage and welding safety protocols.
- Work independently or as part of a fabrication team to meet production goals.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other shop personnel regarding job requirements and progress.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2–5 years of TIG and/or MIG welding experience preferred.
- Experience welding thin-gauge materials required.
- Ability to pass a welding test (TIG/MIG on thin material).
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Experience in fabrication shop or industrial welding environment preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clean, high-quality welds.
- Knowledge of welding parameters, heat control, and distortion prevention.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods in a shop environment.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in various welding positions.
- Must be able to wear required PPE including but not limited to welding hood, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
- Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, sparks, and metal fumes.
Work Schedule & Hours:
- Full-time position averaging 40–56 hours per week.
- Overtime may be required based on production needs.
