(5+ Years Experience Required) Touchstone Group Construction is seeking an experienced Tile Layer to perform high-quality tile installations on residential and commercial projects throughout the Chicago area. This position is for a seasoned professional who understands proper preparation, layout precision, and finish excellence—and can execute work independently to a high standard. Responsibilities: Tile Layout & Installation • Independently plan, measure, and execute tile layouts per plans, specifications, and design intent • Install tile on floors, walls, showers, tubs, backsplashes, and commercial surfaces • Perform advanced layouts including large-format tile, patterns, niches, and transitions • Cut tile accurately using wet saws and specialty tools • Apply grout, sealants, and finishes cleanly and consistently Surface Preparation & Waterproofing • Prepare substrates properly, including cement board, leveling, and reinforcement • Install waterproofing systems (Schluter, Wedi, or equivalent) with precision • Verify surfaces are plumb, level, sloped, and suitable prior to installation • Identify and correct substrate issues before installation begins Jobsite & Quality Control • Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites • Protect adjacent finishes and completed work • Coordinate work sequencing with supervisors and other trades • Complete work efficiently while maintaining Touchstone quality standards Professional Standards • Follow company safety policies and OSHA guidelines • Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, clients, and inspectors • Take full ownership of workmanship and finished results Qualifications: Required Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of professional tile installation experience • Demonstrated ability to complete tile projects independently • Strong understanding of tile systems, substrates, waterproofing, and materials • High attention to detail and finish quality • Proficiency with tile tools and layout techniques • Reliable transportation and professional-grade tools • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work for extended periods Preferred Qualifications • Experience with high-end residential or commercial projects • Stone, marble, porcelain slab, or mosaic experience • Ability to lead or mentor other installers • Experience working on occupied or client-facing job sites Compensation: $34 - $45 hourly
