    Job Description

    We are currently seeking a GIS TECHNICIAN to work in RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Generating and maintaining geodatabase layers and associated attribute information
    • Developing Geographic Databases through use of GIS and advanced technologies for specialized purposes
    • Using various ESRI GIS software as well as various geographic data formats and standard data conversion and transformation methods, for geographic analysis
    • Creating maps, reports, and presentations in support of various GIS and technology projects
    • Participating as needed, in meetings with Technology Services and client staff to fully understand expected project outcomes
    • Working cooperatively with GIS Analysts, Specialists and/or Project Managers to complete assigned work
    • Proactively seeks input and clarification from other employees assigned to given projects in order to minimize time spent in performing the essential duties of the position
    • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Geography, Information Systems or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Working knowledge and experience with data conversion using ArcInfo, ArcGIS, AutoCAD or Microstation.
    • Must be able to assist in complex mapping, GIS development and production strategies using current knowledge of computer applications and technology.
    • Must be able to assist the GIS Analyst in researching and recommending new methods, equipment, or programs to better accomplish tasks.
    • Microcomputer background in GIS/Mapping software, computer aided drafting software, related third party mapping, GIS software applications, database management systems software and windows based operating systems.
    • Good oral and written communications skills; ability to communicate technical information, ability to research, interpret and summarize data.
    • Must have the ability to prioritize multiple projects from numerous departments.
    • This individual must be highly motivated, a self-starter; flexible, detail-oriented, enjoy interacting with employees and clients; willing to work at a dynamic pace to complete tasks and meet deadlines; and share a commitment to our firm’s vision, mission, and shared values.
