    The SVP/Senior Credit Officer is responsible for developing credit guidelines and policies, credit underwriting, credit approval and collection processes, credit monitoring practices, and providing direction to the credit team to ensure overall quality of the Bank’s loan portfolio. As a member of the executive team, the Senior Credit Officer assists in achieving long term profitability, growth, and strategic objectives of the Bank.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identifies and develops long term strategies to manage credit risk which includes portfolio mix, growth strategies and market penetration objectives.
    • Advises management on the appropriate credit risk appetite based on current market data analytics including general macro-economic outlook and sector specific risks and opportunities.
    • Develops credit policies and procedures to comply with regulatory requirements and consistent with the Bank’s risk appetite and strategic goals.
    • Acts as a member of various Bank committees including Officers Loan Committee and Asset Liability Committee
    • Ensures that loan documentation, systems and procedures are consistent with the Bank’s standards and are appropriate for all regulatory requirements.
    • Prepares, reviews, and modifies lending policies and procedures which enable the Bank to perform in a business-like manner, but not expose it to undue risk
    • Measures and manages the aggregate risk in the Bank’s loan portfolio.
    • Ensures that the loan portfolio is appropriately risk rated, maintains monthly ACL and makes recommendations to executive management and the Board of Directors for the amount to be added/deducted to/from the loan reserve; reserve maintenance includes analyzing local, regional, and national economic conditions; loan losses and trends; and loan product concentrations.
    • Provides guidance to credit team on matters including credit analysis, due diligence of potential loans, evaluation of financial statements and credit information, and collection of overdue loans.
    • Governs and enforces underwriting standards.
    • Reviews lending results to ensure that credit policies and practices are followed.
    • Manages, monitors, and reports on asset quality metrics, loan concentrations and loan policy exceptions.
    • Prepares and discusses loan information submitted to the Board of Directors for approval; loan information is defined as the maintenance of the ACL, graded loan reports, and other loan quality information and trends.
    • Manages credit underwriting pipeline.
    • Presents credit recommendation for approving bodies.
    • Processes, solves, and answers complex customer transactions, problems or inquiries related to the lending function.
    • Manages work-out of problem credits, recommending appropriate strategies to management and the Board.
    • Ensures that loan documentation, systems and procedures are consistent with the Bank’s standards and are appropriate for all regulatory requirements.
    • Utilizes the latest bank tools and technology to drive efficiency and productivity.
    • Promotes collaboration by credit team on technology enhancements and process improvements.
    • Represents the Bank on asset quality exams and internal and external audits.
    • Represents the Bank in various community, civic and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank's image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position in the financing arena.
    • Maintains a current knowledge of all laws and regulatory requirements affective the lending process.
    • Manages loan administration staff.
    • Monitors staff in daily tasks, operations, and quality control; ensures the organization of assigned areas of the department, coordinating available resources (e.g., staff, materials, etc.) for maximum results.
    • Plays a positive role in the development and growth of assigned department staff through excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong delegation skills assuring a highly cross-trained staff
    • Performs personnel actions including performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates for employment; supervises the daily activities of the department including, but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, developing work schedules and providing necessary training.

    • Utilizes the latest bank tools and technology to drive efficiency and productivity.
    • Promotes collaboration by credit team on technology enhancements and process improvements.
    • Represents the Bank on asset quality exams and internal and external audits.
    • Represents the Bank in various community, civic and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank's image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position in the financing arena.
    • Cross sells the Bank's other products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff as indicated.
    • Maintains a current knowledge of all laws and regulatory requirements affective the lending process.
    • Acts as a member of various Bank committees including Officers Loan Committee and Asset Liability Committee

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

    • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree a plus
    • 10 + years of commercial and consumer banking experience in credit administration, analysis, and risk mitigation with direct credit approval and supervisory experience in commercial real-estate, construction, and commercial and industrial lending.
    • Possess a high level of expertise in loan underwriting and portfolio management.
    • Requires a demonstrated ability to underwrite complex commercial loans and make sound loan approval decisions of up to $1,500,000.
    • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience
    • Must be able to work well in a teamwork environment.
    • Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop staff.
    • Strong business writing, communication, and presentation skills
    • Must have excellent computer skills including experience with spreadsheet analysis and Microsoft Office
