About the Role – Research and Development Tax Credit Manager/ Tax Preparer ( Nice to have)Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communicate with clients, take notes, and translate those discussions into living documents suitable for release to governmental authorities .
Calculate and analyze large volumes of financial data in mathematical models (generally Excel-based) in compliance with rules governing the research tax credit.
Work with team to accurately calculate and support the research tax credit.
Simultaneously manage multiple projects and engagements for multiple clients across various industries and locations.
Draft and review documents supporting the development activities conducted by client personnel.
Conduct fieldwork - Staff will conduct fieldwork specific to consulting projects. Field work could include visiting the client location, touring client facilities, investigating relevant facts, analyzing accounting information, preparing cost lead schedules and cost summary schedules, completing appropriate tax computations, and preparing written reports summarizing the findings.
Travel - Some travel may be required. However, most fieldwork can be completed from the office.
Legal research - Tax consulting by nature requires that staff become experts in a particular field of the tax law. Staff will conduct research both in general and client specific.
Personal development - Staff will be required to read and study relevant tax material related to the specific line of business. In this way staff will become experts in the related field.
Manage workload - Staff will be required to multi-task and manage various project tasks at once. Project managers will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverables. Staff are expected to initiate internal communication regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, status of workload, expected due dates, etc.
Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals (1040), partnerships (1065), and corporations (1120 and 1120S) income tax returns to satisfy compliance requirements and support effective business/tax planning.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, tax, or other closely related field
CPA, EA, or JD licensure
10+ years of tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax department
Excellent knowledge of IRC Section 41
Previous experience in public accountant firm preferred (10+ years)
Fundamental knowledge of GAAP and tax regulation
Experience with major tax preparation software (Lacerte, Office Tools, SmartVault, Excel, QuickBooks, Sharefile experience)
QuickBooks programs, Office Suite and other reporting tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
