    Billing Supervisor — SF or DC

    We are working with a major law firm that is seeking an experienced Billing Supervisor to be based in its San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC office. This position is responsible for overseeing billing functions of the firm including daily review of complex billing including alternative fee arrangements, billing procedures, quality control, workflow within the department, training of existing and/or new software applications, mentoring of the billing staff and for ensuring the firm continues to utilize the best practices possible for its billing work.

    Ideal candidates will have at least 3+ years of relevant finance experience in a law firm environment and proficiency with Elite billing software. Our client offers annual salary increases and bonuses in addition to a great benefits package for all employees. 

    Requirements & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field is required.
    • At least 3+ years’ experience within a financial environment is required, preferably at a large law firm.
    • Knowledge of the workflow and business practices of a large legal firm.
    • Ability to gain the confidence and trust of attorneys and staff and display the poise, personality and professionalism necessary to achieve these goals and lead a team of professional billers.
    • Prior professional services billing experience, preferably with Elite as the primary billing software.
    • Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Requires effective interaction and communication skills with attorneys, clients and all levels of management and staff throughout the Firm.
    • Ability to consistently deliver excellent customer service.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, specifically Excel.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate level of professionalism.
    • Ability to work as an integral member of the Accounting team and adapt to monthly and cyclical peak workload and deadlines.
    • Ability to be self-motivated and flexible to work overtime to perform essential duties of the position.

     

    Responsibilities & Duties:

    • Prepare and conduction annual performance evaluations.
    • Review and analyze complex client billings including AFA’s prepared by the team.
    • Ensure accounting database reflects accurate billing information as stated in the engagement letter, outside counsel guidelines and partner instructions to meet their client’s expectations.
    • Monitor daily workflow of team to ensure efficient processing of billing and special requests.
    • Coordinate the production of billing information as requested, including analysis of billing, work in process, unapplied funds, cash receipts, and accounts receivable.
    • Assist with the accumulation of timely and relevant billing status reports to assist management with monthly and ad hoc executive summary reports.
    • Review monthly reports on aged unbilled time to ensure status of account agrees with the engagement letter or approved deviation as directed by the Business Committee.
    • Assist billing partners with client requests including budgets, special reporting and various client requests.
    • Perform research, analysis and respond to inquiries from billing partners, clients, finance management and others, as requested. Ensure appropriate communications between team and partners/secretaries and management on status of requests.
    • Maintain full working knowledge of billing functions, reports and inquiries.
    • Assist in coordination of the monthly proforma and billing report package distribution.
    • Train new and current members of the billing team on systems and procedures.
    • Provide performance feedback throughout the year and participate in the annual evaluation preparation with management.

     

    Compensation will be dependent on experience; base salary is flexible.
