SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Dental Hygienists promote a healthier dental lifestyle through educating patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health under a dentist's supervision. They complete dental prophylaxis; provide oral cancer screening and radiography studies. They also chart conditions of decay and disease as well as perform procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The primary responsibility of a Dental Hygienist is to clean teeth, examine patient for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide other preventative dental care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect and update medical and dental histories from patients
- Sterilize dental instruments and tools
- Instruct patients on proper dental hygiene and care including techniques
- Administers prophylactic treatment by the scaling and polishing of teeth
- Documents areas of existing restorations and notable areas of possible decay and diseases for dentist's review
- Administers fluoride treatment as needed
- Take x-rays of patient's teeth
- Promotes treatment plans and encourage patients to begin treatment
- Maintain a clean and neat working area
- Adhere to uniform and dress code policy
- Perform additional duties as assigned
SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS:
- Ability to write clearly, concisely, logically, and legibly and demonstrate accuracy in spelling and basic math
- Speak, understand and write grammatically correct English
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Dentistry including dental terminology, technology, health maintenance, procedures
- Basic understanding and knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules
Maintain a professional demeanor at all times
- Demonstrates exceptional human relation skills and manual dexterity
- Ability to assess issues and seek resolutions
- Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new programs
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Florida State Dental Hygienist License
- Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene; Bachelor's degree preferred
- One year Dental Hygienist experience
- Dentrix/Open Dental knowledge preferred
- CPR Certification
- Ability to travel from office to office as needed
- Part-Time
