We provide a safe environment for children to learn and grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially in order to become leaders in our community and our world. www.tlkafterschool.com JOB DESCRIPTION: The Afterschool & Camp Program Staff will maintain a safe and stimulating environment for children. Work in a child-centered program and focus your duties on the needs of the kids through tutoring and small group instruction. Super unique, one-of-a-kind program! MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Assist in the creation of an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with an emphasis on the principles of Hwa Rang Do (no martial art experience needed for the position). 2. Help with tutoring children through homework and other learning tasks. 3. Perform duties as planned under the leadership of the Program Coordinator. 4. Assist in creating and implementing curriculum based on Leadership, Virtues, Arts & Humanities, Science & Technology and Service Learning. 5. Assist and lead various group games as well as conduct arts & craft projects with the children. 6. It will be the Program Staff's responsibility to play with children; this will often mean getting down on the floor to interact with them or running during physical activity. 7. Interact with the children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing. 8. Support the social and emotional development of children. 9. Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the facility at the end of the day, as well as putting away any games, toys, and other equipment. 10. Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children. 11. Help other staff in preparing snacks for children as required. 12. Maintain a safe environment based on safety standards set by the program and attend to basic first aid needs that arise. 13. Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis. 14. Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child's family. 15. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and also demonstrate vibrant and positive enthusiasm for your work. WORKING CONDITIONS: -Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress. -Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to routinely play with children, clean facility, and sustain energetic leadership during activities with children ages K-8. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: -Minimum: High School Diploma -Preferred: Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; OR Associates Degree; OR 4 years of experience working with children. -Special Knowledge/Skills: Valid driver's license CPR/First Aid Trained or the ability to become trained. Experience working in a childhood setting. Homeschooling or tutoring experience. Experience working with persons from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Experience planning and implementing curriculum. Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children and program. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AVAILABLE!!!
