Job Description: Tool & Die Maker (Bluffton, IN)
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to support tooling operations through die repair, fixture design, troubleshooting, and process improvement. This role works independently with minimal supervision and supports quality, safety, and production goals in a manufacturing environment.
Hours/Schedule
- 1st Shift: 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM (opening available)
- 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM (opening available
- Schedule: 4 x 10-hour days, with occasional Friday overtime
Starting Pay Range
Key Responsibilities
- Repair, build, and maintain dies, fixtures, and tooling
- Layout dies, fixtures, and parts from prints
- Design and build fixtures and small dies
- Troubleshoot sheet metal dies in presses and tool room
- Run all tool room equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, welders, etc.)
- Perform die tryouts and assist with PPAP approval
- TIG/MIG weld and heat treat tool steels as needed
- Estimate and quote labor hours and costs
- Train apprentices and mentor lower-level toolmakers
- Complete required documentation and maintain a clean, safe work area
- Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures
Qualifications
- Strong experience in tool and die manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret part prints
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with precision measuring tools
- Able to lift up to 90 lbs and perform physical job duties
- Must have own toolmaker tools
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship is preferred
Work Environment
Manufacturing/tool room environment with exposure to moving equipment, loud noise, and temperature changes. Required safety equipment must be used at all times.
