Tool and Die Maker/Tryout Specialist

Location: Lansing, MI (Relocation Assistance Available)

Pay: $36-$40/hr DOE+ Robust Benefits

How you will spend your time as a Tool and Die Maker/Tryout Specialist:

• Manage all aspects of tool build or tryout, focusing on line, transfer, and progressive tooling.
• Perform die tryout, spotting, setting timing, and troubleshooting problematic tools in the press.
• Identify and solve die issues related to product quality and implement solutions to develop best practices.
• Apply your expertise in building tools to completion from solid model designs.
• Run tool room equipment, including manual machine equipment, presses, cranes, and forklifts.
• Train and develop employees from general laborer through apprenticeship to journeyman certification and beyond.
• Communicate effectively across departments and teams to ensure quality and efficiency.

Skills & Experience we’d like you to have as a Tool and Die Maker/Tryout Specialist:

• Journeyman Tool and Die Maker Certificate or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience after apprenticeship, or significant experience in die building.
• Experience in die tryout, die troubleshooting, and die bench assembly related to automotive cold stamping (experience in agriculture or appliance cold stamping tooling is also valued).
• Aptitude in building tools from solid model designs and directing/training apprentices.
• Welding skills, including tool steels, TIG, and MIG.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate and provide leadership.
