    Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex®, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys.Our Cetex products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form in a variety of engineered thermoplastic resins including PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

    ** SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

    **

    Responsible for executing all design engineering activities with respect to mold and part design for Compression Molding operations. The Mold Design Engineering function covers a specific range of equipment and processes regarding compression molding, as well as machining and dimensioning of thermoset composite parts.They are experts in mold tooling, possessing extensive knowledge of part manufacturability within a fast-paced environment.The Design Engineer works with all related functions including Process Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance to achieve successful parts and Toray’s objectives.Supports other Toray sites on an as-needed basis.

    ** MAJOR DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • Develops designs, details, and assemblies for compression molds and related tooling

    • Creates 3D models and specifications for mold construction

    • Supports concurrent engineering activities with Program Management/Business Development and Customer

    • Performs tolerance analysis and dimensional checks of designs

    • Administers and supports Digital Design Management and Model Based Definition, including customer engineering data and internally generated data

    • Works with Production and Process Engineering to implement any necessary safety controls or procedures

    • Interacts with the sales team and customers to ensure moldability

    • Provides input to operational reviews and other efforts leading to equipment improvements and cost-reduction activities

    • Supports targeted projects

    • Ensure processes are properly documented and the documents are being followed in adherence with AS9100 registration

    • Performs all duties in compliance with regulatory and company requirements

    Performs other duties as assigned by the Process Engineering Manager or designee

    ** EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum two years of professional mold design experience preferred

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Design, or equivalent required

    • 3D parametric solid modelling CAD experience is a must

    • Fluent knowledge of PTC Creo, CATIA, or Solidworks.

    • Working knowledge of thermosets and how they are used in molding; thermoplastic experience helpful

    • Experience or interest in the development and design of compression molds for advanced composite materials

    • Effective knowledge of GD&T, design techniques, tools, and principles involved in technical plans, drawings, models, and tooling

    • Effective mechanical aptitude

    • In addition to molding, must have a basic understanding of manufacturing technologies such as machining and hardware assemblies

    • Fixture design (machining, CMM) experience helpful

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to work with all levels of the company

    • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills

    • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

    • Able to work and communicate as a member of a team and effectively contribute in cross-functional teams

    ** PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    There are no special requirements for the job other than being able to perform normal computer-related tasks.Must be able to spend some periods of time walking around the plant as part of normal job functions.No significant lifting requirements.

    ** SALARY RANGE:

    **

    $85,000-$110,000 DOE
