SUMMARY

Tower Hill Insurance Group is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Senior Underwriter in their commercial lines division. This position will be responsible for assisting the company’s recent expansion into the Texas Market. Job responsibilities will include working with the territorial marketing representative to deepen business relationships with appointed agents, assist to identify and recruit new agents as needed, underwrite a profitable book of business that fits the company’s risk appetite, assist to build an underwriting team as the Texas book grows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Work with marketing representatives to build strong profitable business relationships with our agency partners. This includes participating in agency field visits, industry events, or other relevant presentations for internal and external audiences.

Assist senior management with strategic planning and territory management decisions and direct activity to see those plans are achieved.

Meet with existing agency partners, appoint additional agents where applicable, and participate with senior management in agent goal setting discussions.

Maintain a profitable portfolio of business focused on new business growth, strong renewal retention, and consistently achieving favorable loss experience in line with business goals.

Examine insurance applications to evaluate, classify, rate and produce business that meets the company’s underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

Conduct loss control analysis with various resources provided through physical inspection reports, geocoding services, and catastrophic modeling services; communicates any loss control recommendations or required policy modifications to agents.

Multi-task and prioritize workflows efficiently to ensure timely & appropriate service.

Stay informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.

Conduct or assist in new underwriter orientation &/or ongoing training of staff, as needed.

Prepare and complete presentations to Company management &/or agency personnel on underwriting strategies, results and business goals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, three to five years related experience and/or training for BOTH Marketing/Sales and Underwriting; or five to seven years in Marketing/Sales OR Underwriting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES ARE EXPECTED TO:

Be highly motivated, self-driven and have the ability to work successfully without daily supervision.

Prior experience in a similar position with current knowledge and established relationships with independent agency owners and trade association organizations in the southeast Texas region (Houston-East Texas/Gulf Coast/South Texas Plains/Valley).
