    THIS TITLE IS IN A CIVIL SERVICE COMPETITIVE CLASS THAT IS SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION. POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO APPLICANTS WITH PERMANENT NYC CIVIL SERVICE STATUS AS BOOKKEEPER.

    POSITION SUMMARY:  The Department of Education’s Office of Food and Nutrition Services is dedicated to providing safe and nutritious meals to the students of New York City. The Bookkeeper will perform computations of a moderate degree of difficulty and responsibility related to financial records within the Office of Food and Nutrition Services. These computations include expenditure patterns, budgets, resource allocations, and vendor payments.  Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO:  Director of OFNS Accounts Payable

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Relationships will be fostered with other Finance staff and OFNS vendors.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Performs bookkeeping functions regarding consolidating and auditing bills submitted for payments by vendors for goods received related to Office of Food and Nutrition Services.
    • Corresponds with vendors regarding payments of services and reconciles discrepancies between billing and payment.
    • Verifies the accuracy of invoices, claims, and vouchers, consulting supporting financial records and data.
    • Assists the Unit in the review and processing of financial documents associated with the Office of Food and Nutrition Services.
    • Performs bookkeeping work, including assisting with audits and related follow-up tasks (e.g., vendor payments; reviews reports and requests for payments).
    • Supports Accounts Payable staff in daily activities associated with OFNS standard operating procedures.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO APPLICANTS WITH PERMANENT NYC CIVIL SERVICE STATUS AS BOOKKEEPER.

     

    PREFERRED

     

    • Proficiency in MS Excel.
    • Internal candidates preferred.

     

     

    SALARY: $42,102+

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • At least 1-2 years of previous call center or data entry experience in a utilization or care management environment within managed care; Associates Degree or Medical Assistant certification preferred
    • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
    • Previous system user experience in a highly automated environment required with strong PC skills required
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
