    TITLE: Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs-Staten Island (ADMASI)

     

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President for Equity & Inclusion (AVPEI)

    JOB SUMMARY:

     

    Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Equity & Inclusion (AVPEI), the Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs-Staten Island (ADMSI) will assist in the management of the lnclusivity Resource Center-Staten Island (IRC-SI); coordinate special events including Heritage Month Programs and cultural awareness programs; coordinate student equity workshops and leader development; and develop and promote internal programs that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEi). Under the leadership from the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which reports the Office of Equity & Inclusion. The ADMSI will actively work to promote a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming campus environment, which includes assisting with cross-cultural and diversity education opportunities related to student success. The ADMSI will supervise a Graduate Assistant and supervise or manage hourly student employees and student leaders from the OMA.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    • Assist the Executive Director with daily operations and functions of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the lnclusivity Resource Center-SI, including identifying and addressing campus climate gaps, serving as a resource to students, and advancing
    • Assist and lead the coordination, creation, and management of the Student Equity Workshop (SEW) Programs for Staten Island, in partnership with your Queens counterparts (e.g., Diversity Peer Education Program, Safe Zone LGBTQ+ Ally Awareness Program, Common Ground/Intergroup Dialogues, Dismantle Oppression Series); supporting the student-centered programs, managing the recruitment and hiring, development and training of student leaders.
    • Deliver social justice trainings to student leaders, student groups, and employees;
    • Serve on the University's bias response team (RESPECT)-Staten Island;
    • Develop and implement skill-based programs, workshops, events and activities that will advance the University's commitment to inclusivity;
    • Design, market, and implement cultural heritage celebrations on Staten Island, and as appropriate, with Queens: collaborate with OMA Queens colleagues regularly to offer in­ person, virtual, and hybrid progrnmR for Cultural, Heritage, and special programming (e.g., Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, Native & Indigenous Heritage Month, Black History/Heritage Month, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Women's History, Asian Pacific Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ Heritage Month/PRIDE, Pre-Juneteenth Celebration, etc.)
    • Partner and develop strategies and programs for historically underrepresented student groups; these programs will promote dialogue, campus engagement, student success, holistic wellness and development, mattering and belonging initiatives, and equip students with leadership and career competencies, skills, and opportunities
    • Assist the Executive Director in the strategic planning and execution of plans, including leading and conducting regular assessment of department-level programs and
    • Assist in the facilitation/co-facilitation and execution of inclusion and equity-based campus climate efforts, as needed; supporting DEi initiatives and trainings when necessary (e.g., Orientation, Reslife, I.S.E.), and perform other duties as needed.
    • Attend Staten Island Student Services meetings, and regularly collaborate with SI Student Affairs and other University departments to develop cultural and global education/engagement opportunities for students;
    • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate assigned staff, including graduate assistant(s) and select
    • Manage program budgets, database profiles, reports, procurement card expenses and reports, online databases and files for select OMA-related programs and
    • Uphold university policies and procedures pertaining to calendar clearance, contracts, budgets, facilities maintenance, marketing, and public safety into all event relevant
    • Other day to day activities include monitor emails, phone, and calendar communications; hosting/attending planning and development meetings; communicating to direct reports; executing small and large tasks associated with the essential functions of this
    • Assist and perform other duties as

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

     

    This position manages employees in the Office of Multicultural Affairs department/function and is responsible for the hiring and performance management of the Graduate Assistant(s) within that department, and the training and development of hourly and student leaders who support the Staten Island campus and this position's specific programs, projects, and duties.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    This position operates in-person, in a professional office environment; This position is required to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to Staten Island, NY, and travel across the Staten-Island campus for meetings (with select meetings on the Queens campus); stand for extended periods during events; move about indoor/outdoor spaces; sit for an extended period of time; to carry work materials and use computer mice, presentation controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate orally and in writing.     POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

     

    This position is full-time; days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30

    p.m. The position often requires long hours, including select weekend work.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

     

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Minimum of 2 years progressive administrative experience in cross-cultural programming, project-management, or related experience
    • Experience supporting historically underrepresented groups is highly

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

     

    • Preferred Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Work, or other related
    • Experience with student supervision experience;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of multicultural student leadership development;
    • Knowledge of identity development theories;
    • Strong understanding and appreciation of diverse social identity groups;
    • Experience with navigating or educating about cultural competency/social justice issues
    • Strong cultural sensitivity; especially toward gender, sex, and ethnically minoritized groups
