    JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SITE COORDINATORS (11-MONTH APPOINTMENT)

    The Site Coordinator (SC) serves a critical role at St. John’s University’s School of Education to help develop key partnerships with the New York City Coalition for Teacher Preparation model.  The SC is a full-time university faculty member who is primarily housed within a partnering PK-12 school district. Site coordinators serve three major roles. They serve as (1) the liaison between the university, school district, and school sites, (2) instructors for college courses and mentor teacher development, and (3) instructional coaches for their teacher candidates.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Doctorate Degree in education-related field
    • Permanent/Professional Teacher Certification preferred
    • At least 3 years teaching in PK-12 setting
    • Strong communication skills
    • Experience mentoring student teachers
    • Familiarity with and/ or a willingness to deepen an understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy

     

    GOALS

    • Foster positive school-university relationships
    • Maximize expertise of mentor teachers by facilitating ongoing training & support
    • Develop leadership skills as a manager, facilitator, mentor, and clinically-embedded instructor
    • Prepare highly-effective teachers to develop a culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy
    • Provide hands-on support and development that result in student achievement gains

      

    DUTIES OF A SITE COORDINATOR

    UNIVERSITY-SCHOOL LIAISON

    • Collaborate with district and school administrators to select high-quality mentor teachers
    • Engage in research with site communities and Coalition partners
    • Facilitate ongoing assessment protocols that provide key information about teacher mentors and student mentees.
    • Attend planning sessions with University and Coalition partners
    • Conduct mentor teacher trainings each semester with the support of the district
    • Conduct regular mentor teacher professional learning sessions
    • Facilitate quarterly partnership meetings (Governance Meetings) to create & foster a positive relationship with district and school site staff

     

    INSTRUCTOR

    • At a minimum, teach one class section of Student Teaching Course each semester
    • Regular communication with teacher candidates, mentors, and IHE program faculty
    • Attend school and department faculty meetings
    • Attend and participate in coordinator training and ongoing professional development meetings
    • Attend IHE faculty and program meetings to contribute and share evaluation ratings of teacher candidates

     

    INSTRUCTIONAL COACH FOR TEACHER CANDIDATES

    • Supervise multiple cohorts (n = 10-25) of teacher candidates at various school sites
    • Conduct regular walkthroughs outside of performance assessment cycles to collect data and provide ongoing support to teacher candidates
    • Conduct formal performance assessments of teacher candidates at least twice per semester
    • Ensure accurate entry of performance assessment ratings

     

    PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

    • Establish and maintain mutual respect, trust, communication and confidentiality with teacher candidates and school/district personnel
    • Maintain a frequent, recurring presence in the school sites with the objective of facilitating walk- throughs, formal observations, and governance meetings

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, manuals, schematics and blueprints including, but not limited to, ladder logic, electronic prints, general plant wiring, manufacturers' schematic and pneumatic diagrams.
    • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
    • Ability to apply mathematics skill at first year university level such as differential calculus and introductory statistics.
    • Mechanical aptitude required to set-up, operate and troubleshoot machinery.
    • Must be able to communicate with vendors, suppliers and/or internal support personnel by providing necessary, accurate and detailed information.
    • Must be able to work independently and/or as part of a team.
    • Must be able to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as needed.  Position is currently assigned to second shift (M-F, 2PM - 10PM)
