    THIS TITLE IS IN A CIVIL SERVICE COMPETITIVE CLASS THAT IS SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION. POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO APPLICANTS WITH PERMANENT NYC CIVIL SERVICE STATUS AS MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN OR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE TAKEN THE MOST RECENT MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION.

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of School Facilities is dedicated to providing a safe, clean, comfortable setting for the students of New York City so that they may take the fullest advantage of the educational services offered.  There are approximately 950 school facilities with Petroleum Bulk Storage Tanks (PBST) of varying capacities that are used to store different grades of fuel that provide heating, hot water, cooling and emergency power. The storage of petroleum products is regulated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), and incumbents will ensure that the DOE is compliant with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) laws. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO:  Manager of Fuel Services

     

    DIRECT REPORTS:  N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS:  Relationships will be fostered with Deputy Director of Facilities, Custodian Engineers, Building Managers, DSF managerial staff and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation staff.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Participates in routine inspection operations supervising the installation and upgrading of fill ports to ensure compliance with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
    • Inspects school premises and oversees the installation or removal of temporary fuel tanks, repairs related to fuel oil tanks and associated piping, and ensures that all permits and registrations are compliant with federal, state and local laws.
    • Provides guidance to the Division of School Facilities operations and maintenance staff on NYSDEC and other regulatory agencies requirement for compliance.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

     

    MINIMUM

     

    1. A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or closely related engineering field from an accredited college; or
    2. One year of full-time paid experience in mechanical engineering work and either a valid New York State Professional Engineer's License or a valid New York State Certificate as an Intern Engineer.

     

    Candidates who have (1) a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering field issued upon completion of a course of study approved by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development; or (2) possess either a valid New York State Professional Engineer's License or a valid New York State Certificate as an Intern Engineer and one year of full-time paid experience in mechanical engineering work will not be required to take the written test.

     

    Candidates with a baccalaureate degree from a school that is not approved by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, or with a degree in mechanical engineering technology must take the written test.

     

    SALARY: $51,411+

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must have current, unencumbered NYS or Connecticut RN license
    • 3 years’ experience in a managed healthcare environment required
    • 2+ years of previous quality/audit and training experience required
    • Prior experience with CMS regulations and NCQA accreditation required
    • Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management and state, federal regulatory and accreditation
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
    • Ability to multi-task many projects simultaneously

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
