    JOB DESCRIPTION:        

    • Student registration, course withdrawals, internal transfers, and related academic records maintenance
    • Process program adjustments, grade changes, pass/fail option, transfer credits, Academic Leave of Absence, Preferred Name Change, Duplicate ID numbers, Fresh Start, Health Related Leaves, Academic Leave of Absence, Academic Dismissals, Converting Hard Records into Banner, Repeat Grade Process
    • Maintain and update office procedure
    • Explain related academic policies to students and work with dean’s offices and faculty to ensure academic record policies are adhered to
    • Maintain the Visiting Student generic email account by responding to all emails and processing a large volume of visiting and graduate non-matriculated applications
    • Participate in all front desk operations, walk-in requests and all counter and telephone inquiries
    • Collaborate with dean’s offices regarding student related issues
    • Assist students who have trouble accessing UIS and any web accessible information
    • Maintain demographical information
    • Process unmatched records in the Electronic Filing Cabinet
    • Train and assist in supervising student workers
    • Assist & support the Call Center with the large volume through phone or TEAMS
    • Back-up for processing transcripts when the transcript department is not in the office
    • Back up support for Staten Island Registrar when they are unavailable
    • Perform other tasks as required
    • Process all College Advantage registration, inputting student information and registration and instructor information
    • Participate in College Advantage presentation to High School Counselors and support the College Advantage faculty with inputting grades    
    • Correct student records from audits run in preparation for the term freeze
    • Senior Citizen Registration

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent
    • At least 2 years in an office setting, prior university experience beneficial
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel & OneDrive)
    • Experience with Ellucian -Banner preferred but not required

     

    Because this position deals with sensitive student information, it requires not only attention to detail and to academic policies but also integrity and respect for the confidentiality codes of the office, the University, and outside agencies including the federal government.  The position also requires the ability to use contemporary technology effectively, strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to work well with others.  As is the case with all other positions in the office, the Departmental Assistant will have to work outside normally scheduled hours as needed.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Greater knowledge and skill than Hoist Operator 1 in the handling of controls for driving fork lift.
    • Must be skilled in handling controls for starting, stopping, backings, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles in building, up and down ramps, and in and out of railroad cars, trucks, etc.; and, for lifting, lowering, and tilting forks by moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate controls. 
    • Must know how high, wide, and long the fork lift truck and its load are, and how much the fork lift truck can lift. 
    • Good special ability to identify how high and wide a doorway and an aisle must be to drive the fork lift truck and its load; how high and wide the shelf, bin, etc., must be to place the load; and how high the load must be lifted to reach the shelf or bin. 
    • Must be able to recognize whether the fork lift truck is able to lift the load and whether the load is properly balanced.  
    • Knowledge of the layout of the storage area to be able to find and place items without need for detailed instructions.  
    • Skilled in moving fork lift trucks about in places where there is very little room to stack or remove loads.
    • Must have ability to read and write instructions.
    • Intermediate Computer skills required
    • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
    • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
    • Must be able to flex schedule to meet the needs of production, including working a different shift if needed.
    • Must be able to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
