Description: The Human Resources Department seeks dynamic self-starters who seek to develop their skills, make professional connections, and strengthen their resume' and most importantly, gain work experience. This opportunity is ideal for an energetic and motivated college student who is looking for broad exposure to different facets of Human Resources while working for local government. Duties and Responsibilities: Under direct supervision performs various administrative and technical support duties to include conducting research and surveys, assembling information, compiling and analyzing statistical data, preparing various reports, and other special projects as assigned by the Human Resources Director The HR Intern will learn the practical application of: * The recruiting and hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews and presenting job offers. * The importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and form management. * The importance of onboarding, learning plans and training and development in the employee life cycle. * Assist with benefits administration as needed. Additional Opportunities: Assist with special projects and other duties assigned, including administrative support to the HR Department. Minimum Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources. * High level of confidentiality in handling sensitive information. * Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite * Must have a valid NC driver's license and driving record in compliance with Town policy. Desired Qualifications KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: Must be able to work effectively and efficiently with the general public, Town Council, public officials, and employees; maintain a pleasant personality at all times; and work independently in absence of specific instructions with little or no supervision; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; and maintain confidentiality of confidential matters. Physical Abilities: Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, see, hear, talk, read, write, and follow oral and written directives.
