    NATURE OF WORK

    Under supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, the Seasonal Intern GIS Field Technician is primarily responsible is to utilize GIS applications to collect and report accurate data in the field. Interns will work independently or with a partner to produce viable datasets in the town’s Cartegraph software application using CartegraphOne and ESRI software. This opportunity provides interns invaluable experiences applying the knowledge and skills learned through education in the government environment.

    Seasonal Intern GIS Field Technician will assist in data collection projects related to streets, water and/or storm water and signs.

    Seasonal Intern GIS Field Technician will perform data collection work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

    This is a seasonal / temporary assignment, typically working 40 hours per week, during the summer months (April / May through August / September).

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Collects GIS related data in the field

    Produce & maintain data collection in Cartegraph

    Assists with the editing and maintenance of spatial data and databases using ESRI software

    Ensures the accuracy and completeness of digital data and maps

    Observe and participate in GIS work conducted in a professional environment

    Work independently, as well as in a team environment

    Performs other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems

    ArcGIS Pro software

    Basic understanding of GIS Principals and coordinate systems

    Knowledge of ArcGIS Online

    Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals, perform accurate and timely data entry, read and comprehend technical information, provide effective customer service, and establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

    Currently working towards a degree in GIS or related field - preferred

    Must be at least 17 years of age with a valid Colorado driver’s license and a safe driving record. Must maintain proof of a safe driving record for continued employment.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, as well as to reach, push and pull with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and/or crawl.

    Must be able to frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds.

    Must be able to work in high places or confined spaces.

    Employee will regularly work outdoors, including in inclement weather conditions, and possibly in extreme temperatures (exceeding 100 degrees to below-zero cold weather).

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and vehicular traffic.
