    Employment Status: Part-Time, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. M-F (Full-Time hours available when needed)

    FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

    Classification: Non-Emergency Essential/AFSCME Union Member

    Department: Planning & Inspections

    Reports To: Director of Planning & Inspections and/or supervisor or another designee

    Supervisory Responsibility: None

    Primary Work Location: Planning & Inspections office and/or Town Hall as needed

    Position Summary

    Perform administrative, technical, and clerical functions for the Department through the intake and initial processing of applications and permits for building construction, licensing, and land use applications; does related work as required.

    Essential Job Functions

    These essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties.

    • Support of building permit and inspection services.
    • Administration of contractor, peddler, and rental licensing.
    • Intake, process, and issue residential and commercial building permit applications, in person and online.
    • Intake and process payments for the Department, in person and online through software system and ensure payments are applied to correct corresponding accounts.
    • Review, process, and issue residential rental licenses, peddlers' licenses, and contractor licenses.
    • Administrative support for Building Inspections and Code Enforcement including answering inquiries from the public, setting appointments and inspections, gathering documents for inspections, etc.
    • Perform technical tasks and data entry for the intake and processing of building permits, code enforcement violations, rental inspections, land use applications and other Planning & Inspection Department functions through software system.
    • Backup planning coordinator in taking meeting minutes for BOA and Planning Commission. Performs related work as required by the Department Head.

    Experience Required

    • Some experience in customer service.
    • Experience working in real estate, planning, or as a planning or a permit technician, a plus.

    Minimum Education Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Basic knowledge of the permit process and applicable regulations.
    • Skill in obtaining and analyzing facts.
    • Ability to collect, tabulate, and analyze statistical data.
    • Ability to read maps and deeds.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications that apply to work assigned.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, contractors, property owners, representatives from other agencies, and the public.
    • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrate a proficient skillset with Microsoft suite of applications, or the ability to become proficient upon hire.

    ADA Requirements:

    This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; mental acuity is required to make rational decisions through sound logic and deduction; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
