Seeking two highly qualified Toxicologists / Risk Assessors to provide technical expertise in toxicology, exposure assessment, and human and ecological risk assessment. The selected professionals will support NEC’s ongoing environmental and regulatory programs with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and related RCRA and CERCLA projects.
You will perform or review Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) and Ecological Risk Assessments (ERAs) to ensure hazardous waste sites and facilities meet state and federal environmental protection standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide scientific and technical support in toxicology, human and/or ecological risk assessment, and exposure assessment.
Conduct, review, and interpret HRAs and ERAs for compliance with DTSC, RCRA, and CERCLA regulatory frameworks.
Prepare and review scientific reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory documentation.
Evaluate contaminant toxicity, exposure pathways, and receptor risk using DTSC guidance and EPA protocols.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, environmental scientists, chemists, and regulatory specialists).
Communicate findings to project managers, regulators, and clients.

Minimum Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Toxicology, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
10+ years of professional experience in toxicology, exposure assessment, or risk assessment under RCRA and CERCLA programs.
Proven experience preparing or reviewing Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) and/or Ecological Risk Assessments (ERAs).
Familiarity with DTSC risk assessment protocols, EPA exposure models, and hazardous waste site investigations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Board certification (DABT) preferred.
Experience with California-specific risk assessment methodologies (OEHHA, CalEPA).
Previous DTSC or regulatory agency experience strongly desirable.
Knowledge of GIS, statistical tools, or environmental modeling software a plus.
