    Job Summary:

    This position will provide internal consulting, and Customs import and export technical knowledge to support North America operations. This role is expected to be part of a team accountable for Customs and trade compliance operations and support Mexico and US operations. Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred. Activities include free trade agreement (FTA) and preferential duty program qualification and supplier solicitations, tariff classification, maintenance of harmonized customs data, management of daily brokerage and business questions and participating government agency data, creation and documentation of long-term supplier declarations and other certifications as required, determination of country of origin, import and export audits and recordkeeping activities.

     

    Required compliance activities:

    • Assign tariff classifications to machinery, finished goods, agricultural items, chemicals, raw materials, packaging, samples, etc.
    • Ensure classifications are supported through GRI's, trade research and due diligence records. Leverage cross-functional relationships to gain information to enable quality decision making.
    • Maintain Customs and participating government agency data within Global Trade Management (GTM) software or relevant compliance tools.
    • Apply knowledge of Customs regulations and participating government agency requirements across Mexico, Canada and the U.S. to a variety of products including FDA Product Codes.
    • Execute cross border operations and timely manage operational requests from within the business, brokers and freight forwarders in Mexico and the U.S.
    • Utilize GTM software or manual processes to determine eligibility for preferential duty programs and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification. Apply rules of origin, qualify items, engage in supplier solicitations for preference documentation and generate or create FTA or relevant origin certificates.
    • Ensure co-manufactured, ex-manufactured and co-packed items are assigned the correct tariff classifications and qualified properly for preferential duty programs. Assign NOMs in Mexico (Official Mexican Standards) as mandatory technical regulations.
    • Ensure all records are kept in accordance with relevant Customs regulations, including recordkeeping audits and communication with Customs brokers and freight forwarders. Maintain North America recordkeeping SharePoint site.
    • Support product, partners and Bill of Materials data cleansing and validation activities for GTM software implementation.
    • Support special projects, including duty mitigation strategies.
    • Conduct import and export audits, recording results and corrective actions.
    • Escalate compliance issues resulting from deviations to internal requirements or external standards.
