HIGH-LEVEL OVERVIEW
The Trade Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with U.S. import laws and trade enforcement regulations, with a strong focus on CBP import rules, responsible sourcing, and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) for a Chinese owned manufacturer.
This is an in-office position based near Grand Rapids, MI.

EXPECTATIONS
- Manage product HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and recordkeeping
- Lead the UFLPA compliance program with supplier due diligence and supply chain traceability
- Prepare, review, and submit UFLPA rebuttal packages and supporting documentation to CBP
- Respond to CBP inquiries, detentions, Withhold Release Orders (WROs), and enforcement actions
- Serve as the primary contact customs brokers, CBP, outside counsel, and internal stakeholders
- Monitor changes in customs and trade enforcement regulations to assess business impact
- Develop and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and training materials
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate import compliance gaps
- Support supplier onboarding and ongoing forced labor compliance monitoring
ESSENTIALS
- 8 years of experience in import compliance and responsible sourcing
- Bachelor’s degree in international business, supply chain management preferred
- Licensed Customs Broker preferred
- Strong understanding of HTS classification, COO, Valuation and import documentation
- Hands-on experience with Import process, bonded warehouse entries, audits, detentions, etc.
- Demonstrated expertise in UFLPA compliance, forced labor regulations, and WRO processes
- Knowledge of global supply chains and traceability requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with an easy going, collaborative attitude
