Traditional/Blended Worship Leader & Choir Director
Job Description: Worship Leader / Choir Director (Traditional & Blended)
Position Type: Part-Time (20–25 Hours Per Week)
Salary Range: $24,000 – $32,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Reports To: Senior Pastor
Role Purpose
The Worship Leader / Choir Director serves as a primary architect of the spiritual and musical atmosphere for our traditional and blended worship services. This is not just a musical position; it is a role that opens the door for God to speak to us all. We are looking for a leader who sees music as a tool for connection—uniting different generations, backgrounds, and musical preferences through a shared heart for worship as we seek to be “A Family. Through Christ. Serving All.”
Primary Responsibilities
Worship Leadership: Lead and oversee the musical elements of the traditional and blended services, ensuring a seamless flow that invites the congregation into deep engagement.
Choir Direction: Direct weekly choir rehearsals and Sunday morning performances, providing both musical instruction and spiritual encouragement to members. Also available for Special services (Christmas Eve, Easter, funerals, celebrations) as requested.
Recruitment & Development: Actively recruit new vocalists and instrumentalists into the music ministry. You are expected to be a talent-scout who can identify, invite, and nurture the musical gifts of the congregation.
Collaborative Planning: Work closely with the Senior and the Worship Leader (Modern Service) to ensure a cohesive vision across all worship experiences.
Musical Versatility: Curate a repertoire that honors the depth of many genres of music to connect the demographics of our church (traditional hymnody, African American Gospel, praise and worship, etc.).
Key Competencies
The Bridge-Builder: Ability to navigate and connect diverse groups of people, fostering a sense of our identity as a church, despite differing musical tastes.
Musical Proficiency: Strong vocal leadership and the ability to read/arrange music for both choral and instrumental accompaniment.
Strategic Recruitment: A natural "people person" who is comfortable inviting others into the ministry and building a sustainable volunteer pipeline.
Administrative Diligence: Organized approach to planning rehearsals, selecting music in advance, and communicating clearly with staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
Proven experience leading traditional and/or blended worship in a congregational setting.
Demonstrated ability to perform and lead both various musical styles.
A heart for ministry that aligns with the mission of Grayson United Methodist Church. A leader that is humble, patient, not overbearing, and approachable.
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and relational health.
Organizational Alignment
This position sits within the Pastoral and Ministry Staff branch of our organization. You will work alongside our Modern Worship leader to ensure our musical offerings are holistic and healthy. You will report directly to Trenton Dockery, our Senior Pastor, for operational oversight and daily coordination.
