PROJECT IS IN FRANKLIN, NC
The Traffic Control Technician Driver (Telecommunications – Aerial Fiber) is responsible for implementing and maintaining safe traffic control operations for overhead fiber optic construction projects. This role supports aerial fiber installations performed by line crews working on utility poles, ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians in active roadway environments. This position requires driving the company vehicle from various locations during the day.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices (cones, signs, arrow boards, barricades, and message boards) for aerial fiber optic construction projects.
Establish lane closures, shoulder closures, and flagging operations in accordance with approved traffic control plans.
Provide flagging support for bucket trucks, cable reel trailers, and pole transfer operations.
Coordinate closely with aerial linemen, ground crews, and supervisors to adjust traffic control as work progresses along the route.
Monitor traffic flow and modify control measures to maintain safe working distances around bucket trucks and equipment.
Ensure safe work zones around energized utility infrastructure and overhead lines.
Conduct site inspections to confirm compliance with state and local roadway safety regulations.
Maintain and operate equipment such as arrow boards, portable traffic signals, and truck-mounted attenuators (TMAs).
Complete daily job safety analyses (JSAs), traffic control logs, and incident reports.
Maintain communication via two-way radio with crew members and flaggers positioned at opposite ends of the work zone.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL may be required).
Certification in traffic control procedures (e.g., flagger certification).
Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) or local equivalent.
Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and roadway diagrams.
Basic math and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel is a must
