    Job Summary

    We’re seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Transmission Line team and lead impactful engineering initiatives that support our mission of providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy solutions. In this role, you’ll apply advanced technical knowledge to design, manage, and oversee complex engineering projects, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to cross-functional success.

    This position is ideal for experienced professionals who thrive in both independent and collaborative environments. You will serve as a technical representative of the company in a range of internal and external settings while shaping the future of transmission infrastructure.

    Job Function

    • Lead and manage engineering projects from planning through completion.
    • Develop work plans, status updates, and corrective actions for project milestones.
    • Serve as technical representative in meetings with the public, members, vendors, and contractors.
    • Train and mentor less experienced engineers; provide work direction to contractors and staff.
    • Perform design work for transmission lines using performance, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., RUS, NESC).
    • Create construction specifications, estimates, stringing charts, and material requirements.
    • Conduct studies on grounding, lightning, Corona effects, and audible noise.
    • Lead transmission line siting efforts and substation interconnection planning.
    • Support field inspections, contract management, and project documentation.
    • Analyze technical data, recommend solutions, and maintain compliance with codes and procedures.
    • Ensure safe execution of all tasks and promote engineering best practices.

    Education and Experience

    • A bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Kentucky is preferred.
    • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in electric utility or transmission line design required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proven leadership in engineering project management and team direction.
    • In-depth understanding of cooperative financial structures and business strategy.
    • Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Experience with surveying methods (lidar, GPS, photogrammetry) and interpreting maps and layouts.
    • Proficiency with PLS-CADD and other line design software.
    • Working knowledge of transmission construction, inspection, and contract administration.
    • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business applications.
    • Ability to think critically, adapt to change, and maintain a customer-focused mindset.
