Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and driven Transmission Line Project Manager to lead high-voltage transmission line projects (138kV, 345kV, and potentially 765kV) from planning through completion. This role is ideal for civil or mechanical engineers who want to apply their technical expertise in a leadership capacity, guiding the work of design specialists rather than performing the design themselves.
As the primary point of coordination, you will work closely with the Engineer of Record (EOR), Owner’s Engineer (OE), and other key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, oversee project execution, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, construction, environmental, and procurement.
This position offers an excellent pathway for ambitious engineers to enhance their decision-making skills, strengthen leadership abilities, and gain comprehensive experience in managing complex utility infrastructure projects, paving the way for future senior leadership opportunities within our organization.
Job Duties:
- Manage end-to-end delivery of transmission line projects, from project inception through siting/permitting, land acquisition, construction, energization, and close-out
- Develop Scopes of Work, schedules, and budgets. Collaborate with team members to keep these updated on a regular basis
- Strong organizational skills to manage a portfolio of work consisting of multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively under project deadlines
- Oversee external design, including the Engineer of Record (EOR) and Owner’s Engineer (OE)
- Coordinate resources across permitting, ROW, procurement, engineering, construction, environmental, and operations to align efforts and deliver project milestones
- Coordinate and support decision-making by evaluating technical recommendations and identifying potential risks, tradeoffs, and constructability concerns.
- Serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders, maintaining consistent communication and accountability.
- Monitor construction execution, providing support and direction based on the approved design and technical requirements.
- Participate in field reviews and issue resolution during construction to ensure alignment with intended design and performance objectives.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Minimum 8 years of experience in transmission line engineering or project execution for electric utilities or EPC firms
- Demonstrated success in facilitating design reviews, value engineering, and constructability assessments
- Relevant experience managing project scope, schedule, and budget for small-scale to medium-scale capital transmission projects, or project lead engineering experience
- Familiarity with key engineering tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and industry codes (NESC, ASCE, IEEE).
- Proven track record managing external consultants, including EORs and owner’s engineering teams.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
- Personally displays and encourages extreme ownership
- Skilled at providing leadership and operating in a highly dynamic and nimble organization based on successful cross-functional teaming
- Experience navigating cross-functional utility environments including legal, environmental, operations, and stakeholder engagement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation
- Familiarity with the regulatory process for the siting of transmission lines
- Experience working with landowners and other stakeholders in all aspects of right-of-way acquisition.
Benefits:
- 401K – 12% employer contribution with no vesting period (6% Match and 6% non-matching contribution)
- Highly competitive compensation
- Five to eight weeks of PTO annually, based on years of experience; eleven additional holidays per calendar year
