    Summary/Objectives of Position

    The Transporter position is part of the Bakersfield American Indian Health Project’s integrated service model that provides needed transportation services to clients seeking healthcare services. These non-emergency transportation drivers provide transportation services that include but are not limited to bringing clients/patients to the BAIHP facilities for testing, food equity, delivery of healthcare supplies, medication delivery; patient pick up/drop off to and from home, appointments, treatment centers, and other healthcare sites. Services are provided to groups, youth, adults, and elders including those with physical and developmental disabilities. The Transporter is responsible for vehicle cleanliness, maintenance inspection checks/safety checks, and reporting. While not performing transportation-related services, the transporter will assist with general clinic duties such as scheduling/confirming transports, charting patient notes in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, contacting clients regularly to assess patients' transport needs, and participating in community outreach and engagement.

    Essential Duties, Functions & Responsibilities

    • Conducts themselves in a reliable, courteous, compassionate, and professional manner with clients/patients and staff at all times.
    • Responsible for the transport of clients/patients to their desired destination safely and equitably within expected timelines.
    • Responsible for both pre and post-trip vehicle inspection regarding maintenance and safety.
    • Requires that the transporter interact with clients/patients in a positive and supportive way during their transport.
    • Ensures the cleanliness of vehicles. May be required to wash the exterior of vehicles if needed.
    • Safely help consumers/patients in and out of vehicles and transport patients to and from appointments.
    • Under supervision performs services related to the transportation of supplies and equipment as needed.
    • Supports in-home care by transporting BAIHP staff members, as needed for in-home visits, events, collaborative meetings, and other business-related purposes.
    • Completes records associated with assigned duties including but not limited to documentation associated with the deliveries, client transports, lab and medical records, vehicle safety reports, and regular disinfecting of vehicles.
    • Maintains updated and accurate vehicle logbook records.
    • Communicates and provides information to clients/patients about proper use of PPE when needed.
    • Documents client transport and other relevant healthcare notes into EHR.
    • Supports clinical staff as needed to provide transportation services.
    • Assists with communication and scheduling pick up/drop off vehicles for maintenance and/or repair with vendors.
    • Communicate with patients regularly to verify transport and clinic appointments.
    • Cleans and disinfects interiors and exterior touch points of vehicles and equipment used in transportation.
    • Assist with community outreach duties as needed including working on BAIHP events.
    • Is responsible for providing safe, timely, and punctual transportation services for patients/clients/staff members and loading and offloading medical equipment, and patient-related items to and from their destination.
    • At no time is the transporter allowed or required to assist persons for who they transport in and out of a vehicle or cargo transport vehicle (e.g., trailer, bus, cargo van, etc.).

    Minimum Mandatory Qualifications:

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience:

    • 1 year prior experience relevant to the position required.
    • Experience providing transportation services for primary or other healthcare-related services is preferred.
    • Experience in transporting all age groups preferred.

    License/Certification:

    • Valid CA driver's license.

    Communication Skills:

    • Demonstrates proficiency in communication and writing skills.
    • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general and professional documents.
    • Ability to write routine and correspondence.

    Interpersonal Skills:

    • Ability to foster teamwork; train and direct the work of team members and colleagues
    • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work productively and make independent decisions.

    Technology:

    • Familiar with electronic healthcare records systems.
    • Proficiency with using computer-based applications (e.g. Microsoft Office) and clinical information management systems.
