    Overview:

    The SMU Product Developer is responsible for developing materials and trims, building and maintaining accurate BOM’s, maintaining costs in accordance with financial objectives, communicating adjustments and corrections to overseas offices/suppliers, overseeing sampling (complete to commercialized product), resolving any issues that may arise, and providing insight and feedback to the Design team for Special Make-Ups (SMU). 

    Essential Functions:

    • Communicate directly with factories to execute approved style details in order to approve all Pre-Salesman Samples, Bulk Salesman samples, Pre-production and Top of Production samples.
    • Works with the Lead Developer on ensuring product details meet/exceed quality, factuality and price point margins.
    • Oversee product development samples; from proto stage through approval of Top of Production samples.
    • Manage style pre-costing and analyze all subsequent prototype costing to ensure yield, material costs, and FOB's are accurate and meet margin objectives.
    • Manage proto, sample, counter-sample and pre-production approvals to ensure the company’s quality standards are met and deliveries are received on time.
    • Manage development process according to established company calendar.
    • Control and adhere to company’s high-quality standards by monitoring product details and development specs throughout the product manufacturing process including development wash testing and shrinkages.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or technical trade school and / or equivalent experience
    • Ability to prioritize workflow based on deadlines
    • Ability to problem solve, meet calendar deadlines, and communicate all issues to applicable departments
    • 3-5 years’ experience in men’s apparel product development and accessories product development with a strong understanding of product engineering, manufacturing processes and garment timelines
    • Proficient in Microsoft Applications, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
    • Ability to interpret design intent on fabric/graphics and silhouette and offer alternative solutions
    • Knowledge of PLM system(s)
    • Knowledge of basic garment constructions and trim details as it relates to all product categories
