    Florida SouthWestern State College is accepting resumes in search of an Adjunct Professor **** in the School of Pure and Applied Science. FSWs' adjunct professors are responsible for providing professional quality work as a teaching faculty member. Work includes conducting and teaching courses within the prescribed curriculum for students enrolled at the College; preparing and delivering lectures to students; compiling, administering and grading examinations; and providing academic assistance to students as needed. As an FSW adjunct, you have the opportunity to directly impact the college mission to inspire our students to 'Dedicate to Graduate'.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Doctoral or master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the teaching discipline or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline)
    • Demonstrated ability to use technology in creating and delivering course content
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the subject area to be taught and currency in the discipline

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Develops and oversees the implementation of safe operating rules for the use of electrical and mechanical equipment consistent with manufacturers' recommendations and specifications

    • Develops and implements a system to encourage employees to report unsafe conditions immediately

    • Assists supervisors to conduct thorough investigations of every incident, whether or not there is an injury, to determine the cause of the accident and to prevent recurrence

    • Assists field safety personnel in establishing effective site-specific safety, occupational health, and environmental protection programs

    • Conducting and supervising periodic safety, occupational health, and environmental audits of field operations and advising all company management teams regarding technical adequacy and compliance with applicable client rules and regulations, federal and state regulations and/or laws, and corporate regulations

    • Directs and assists in the investigation of serious accidents and major environmental incidents

    • Analyzes investigative data and assists in the development of preventative measures to eliminate or control hazards and potential liability

    • Assists project managers in applying accepted industrial hygiene procedures, techniques, and work practices in a manner that reflects both technically sound and cost-effective use of corporate resources

    • Assisting project managers in tracking, maintaining, and managing all legally required medical surveillance and environmental test records for the duration of each project

    • Assisting in the planning, preparation and presentation of safety, health, and environmental training for all supervisors and employees.

    • Assisting project managers with the administration and coordination of the project security and fire protection programs

    • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by Corporate Management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.

    • The ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly and speak a second language would be a plus.

    • Proficient in using current and new technologies

    • Leadership ability


    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Safety or a related field required
    • 15+ years of experience in the safety area of construction
    • Holds and maintains a CSP certificate

    Physical Demands

    • Travel is required to visit projects, and attend training and meetings.
    • Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift
    • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
    • Ability to lift, on an infrequent basis, up to or less than 50 pounds.
