Satellite communications has the ability to transform modern day communications as we know it and brings safety, security and new benefits to first responders, the military and to customers globally.

When you really need to be continuously connected - people depend on Kymeta. Because when lives and property matter, good isn’t good enough.

Kymeta is looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer who can work in an integrated engineering and product team environment. Position is focused on leading project team to transform research and other early NPI projects into a structured engineering designs ready for manufacturing. This role will require a combination of project leadership, communication skills, and with mechanical technical acumen.

Problems that need to be solved include design for electronics packaging in harsh environments, weight and size optimization, and enabling scalable designs for cost/manufacturability.  Experience with product simplification and design for cost/ manufacturing are highly desired.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead the mechanical portion of next generation flat panel satellite flat panel antenna within a structured NPI program. Requires both individual and project leadership deliverables. Must be willing and able to work through large amounts of change and ambiguity throughout program
    • Scope and direct mechanical project team on what problems to solve. Review and integrate designs into larger system. Individual design ownership is also required
    • Decompose product level use cases and objectives into actionable engineering workstreams and defining figures of merit and acceptance criteria
    • Coordinate with program management office and other engineering teams to align on resources and deliverables
    • Leverage subject matter experts within the team to define solutions and iterate on design proposals to optimize for performance vs costs (tolerances, manufacturing, assembly, test, materials, and thermal performance to meet lifetime reliability)
    • Coordinate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to incorporate DFM/A feedback
    • Take part in initial assembly of engineering units to understand design shortcomings and iterate prior to product release
