    As an Education Specialist , you have an opportunity to address the most pressing health and wellness needs in Native American communities. You will administer Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) to Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) school staff, students, and families on a variety of behavioral health and wellness topics.     The BIE Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) provides culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness services for school staff, students, and families at all Bureau-funded institutions, including Bureau-operated schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, post-secondary institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop and present educational content on how to support young people with mental health challenges, substance use disorder, suicide prevention, and other crucial behavioral health topics.
    • Provide Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) to BIE educators, residential staff, students, and families to address organizational behavioral health and wellness needs.
    • Develop and present educational programs on classroom management.
    • Assist BIE audience in strengthening existing services and/or building infrastructure for crisis prevention efforts.
    • Coordinate with other TTA Coordinators and the contract staff to ensure collaboration, communication, joint development of materials, and training.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Knowledge and expertise in K-12 education; knowledge in higher education is a plus.
    • Experience and background working in tribal communities providing onsite and virtual TTA.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management/culturally appropriate intervention techniques.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including how to summarize and convey complex information to multiple audiences.
    • Proven ability to form positive, effective, and culturally competent relationships with clients and team members.
    • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
    • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and SharePoint.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in education preferred; (extensive professional experience in related areas can be substituted for the education requirement).
    • 2 or more years of professional experience.
    • Previous work in Native American and Alaska Native communities required.
