  • Responsibilities

    SCOPE OF POSITION:

    Reporting to assigned Supervisor, is responsible for daily dispatch of assigned Drivers. Provides daily coordination, communication, and indirect supervision to Driver staff. Understands, supports, and actively promotes Tax-Air’s philosophy and commitment to safety and security.

     

    BASIC FUNCTION:

    Ensures effective, efficient, and timely pick-up and delivery of freight. Performs related data-entry, paperwork,  and follow-up as required. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Promotes and maintains a flexible, cooperative, positive, team-oriented, and customer-focused attitude.

    Schedules, monitors, and adjusts routes for effective and efficient dispatch.

    Responds with a sense of urgency to pick-ups and deliveries, as required by customer (e.g. specials, hot shipments, early lock outs, etc.). Collaborates and communicates with various internal support teams to ensure effectiveness.

    Communicates and collaborates with Drivers, continuously, to ensure pick-ups and deliveries are done as required and to assist in resolving issues occurring from assignments.

    Works pro-actively with appropriate support departments (e.g. Customer Care, Operations, etc.) ensuring proper information is obtained and shared.

    Provides status updates to customers regarding freight, as required. Researches charges and/or PODs.

    Traces duplicate pick-ups and Tax pros.

    Completes data entry functions, as required.

    Reviews Dispatch policies and procedures, as directed, and makes recommendations for improvement.

    Assists in training staff on Dispatch procedures, as needed.

    Provides positive and constructive input regarding Driver performance to Supervisors, as necessary, for performance assessment purposes. 

    Ensures all files, records, databases, and back-up paperwork are set-up, maintained, and processed within responsibilities.

    Informs Supervisor of pertinent issues and information warranting his/her knowledge, action, or resolution. 

    Other duties as required.

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

    Minimum 6 months experience dispatching in a transportation company preferred. Knowledge of or experience with hazardous materials regulations and requirements preferred. A combination of experience and education conducive to success may be considered.

    Excellent spatial/geographic location skills and knowledge of cities, directions, distances, and routes needed for efficient dispatching.  Proficient map reading skills.

    Ability to work positively and effectively in a fast paced, varied, demanding, and sometimes stressful environment.

    Strong decision making and leadership skills.

    Excellent attention-to-detail with strong organizational and follow-up skills.

    Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

    Ability to work independently and with minimal direction/supervision.

    Proficient PC skills with various software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Adaptable to changing work processes or schedules.

     

    EQUIPMENT/TOOLS OPERATED: 

    Standard office equipment such as: PC, fax machine, copier, etc.
