Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Engineer (Automotive)

The Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Engineer (Automotive) will bebased in Auburn Hills, MI or Midland, MI. Virtual Office will be considered.

The TS&D engineer supports the development, market implementation and quality of Trinseo Automotive Plastics. The opening is aimed at supporting customers as well as developing and commercializing new products and securing new application specifications in the Automotive industry for a range of Trinseo plastics, with primary focus on Styrenics resins, Polycarbonate blends and semi-structural Polypropylene compounds.

The job would be based in Michigan and will require you to apply your knowledge of polymers and polymer fabrication technologies on a daily basis. As a member of Trinseo Automotive PlasticsTS&D organization, you will also have responsibility for specific development projects, requiring interaction with R&D and TS&D colleagues in the U.S. and / or globally. You will need to work closely with sales, manufacturing and other functions within Trinseo, with technical responsibility for a defined group of customers.

Job expectations

As the technical interface with customers, the role has a strong application and product development focus, with additional responsibilities for ensuring product quality meets customer needs, with responsibilities including:

• Identifying and understanding the end use application needs.
• Identifying project opportunities, based on customer and market needs.
• Translating identified needs into product and application development opportunities.
• Developing and implementing new products, applications and fabrication technologies.
• Development projects to resolve critical quality issues.
• Developing an understanding the competitive position.
• Supporting existing business.

Your background

• Knowledge of polymers and/or polymer fabrication technologies, gained through a university level education in Polymer Material Science, Fabrication Technology or Engineering, or closely related fields.
• Excellent verbal and written communication as well as strong presentation and organizational skills are essential. A working knowledge of Spanish would also be helpful.
• Mobile and able to travel, within North America, up to 30%.
• Minimum education level should be a B.Sc (M.Sc preferred) in Polymer, Chemical or Mechanical engineering, with 5 – 10 years experience in polymer processing, especially in injection molding, extrusion and / or compounding. A working knowledge of Design of Experiments, mold filling analysis, and part/ mold design is preferred.
