    SUMMARY:

    Installs, operates, and modifies electrical generating power production plants and equipment.

    LOCATION: Fort Bragg, NC

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Installs and operates electrical power plants, distribution equipment, automatic transfer panels.
    2. Checks equipment for serviceability. Positions equipment such as gasoline, diesel, and turbine engines; generators; switchgear; air compressors; and other power plant auxiliary equipment.
    3. Modifies equipment according to technical publications.
    4. Accomplishes operating and repair tasks.
    5. Checks installed equipment to ensure compliance with publications, policies, and directives. Inspects, tests, and services component systems such as safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, air pressure, pumps, regulators, governors, and accessory equipment.
    6. Observes and interprets instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, synchroscopes, automatic temperature and pressure recorders, and engine oil, fuel, and coolant gauges.
    7. Adjusts engine generator systems to maintain proper voltage, current frequency, and synchronization.
    8. Synchronizes multi-generators.
    9. Operates high voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and other controls on switchboards and distribution panels.
    10. Performs electrical power control and distribution functions.
    11. Maintains and repairs electrical power generating equipment, automatic transfer panels.
    12. Performs inspections. Interprets inspection findings and determines corrective action.
    13. Identifies and records engine and generator malfunctions.
    14. Troubleshoots malfunctions and inspects parts for excessive wear and other conditions.
    15. Uses precision test equipment.
    16. Removes, repairs, and replaces defective power generating equipment components.
    17. Performs corrosion control.
    18. Inspects and replaces gauges and meters.
    19. Bench checks components and subassemblies.
    20. Tests and calibrates repaired items.
    21. Reviews performance data and maintenance records to determine adequacy of maintenance.
    22. Interprets data related to electrical power generating systems to prevent potential systems failure.
    23. Advises on problems installing and repairing electrical power production equipment.
    24. Solves maintenance problems.
    25. Studies layout drawings, and wiring and schematic diagrams.
    26. Analyzes construction and operating characteristics.
    27. Develops and establishes maintenance and operating procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
    28. Maintains records.
    29. Posts entries on operation, inspection, and maintenance records.
    30. Records meter readings, wear and alignment measurements, fuel consumption, and other data in performance logs.
    31. Furnishes information for reports, and recommends changes to correct defective equipment or improve operating procedures.
    32. Complies with environmental policies.

    KNOWLEDGE OF: principles of electronics and electricity, including generation, conversion, transformation, distribution, and utilization; types, capacity, and purpose of high and low voltage circuits, circuit breakers, switches, fuses, regulators, relays, instruments, and meters associated with electric generation and distribution; interpreting instrument and meter readings; wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical publications; techniques of operating and maintaining internal combustion engines, generators, generating plants, distribution panels, and accessory equipment; repair and maintenance of aircraft arresting systems; use and purpose of test equipment; safety rules and practices; environmental policies; principles of management; and operation and repair of electrical power production systems.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION, ETC:  · Must be a U.S. Citizen with a current U.S. Passport.  .  · Must have valid U.S. Driver’s License

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION:  Completion of High School.  Courses in algebra and physics desired

    Required Experience

    EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of five years experience in functions such as operation and maintenance of engines, generators, and distribution components of electric power production equipment to include a variety of makes/models.   Completion of a basic electrical power production course in the military, trade school or Union shop is desired.
