    Appalachian Community Services (ACS) an ncgCARE partner, provides mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual/developmental disability services to individuals and families within the seven western counties of North Carolina. Our mission is to promote the emotional and physical well-being of consumers in a safe and respectful environment.

    We are committed to providing a wide array of services to effectively meet the changing needs within the community. These services include counseling and psychiatry, substance use treatment, mobile and residential crisis stabilization, intensive in-home, community support teams, peer support, and group homes.

    Location: Waynesville, NC (The Balsam Center- Inpatient facility)

    We are seeking both a full-time and a part-time Registered Nurse to provide the following services:

    • Ability to work with individuals who experience symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse/dependence, including consumers with a co-occurring developmental disability.
    • Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of theory, practices, principles, and techniques of the nursing profession; ability to understand, interpret and relate oral and written instructions; ability to explain medical instructions in consumer and their families/ some ability to organize and supervise the work of other professional and nonprofessional employees; considerable knowledge of the area of work and medications; ability to gain the confidence of patients and to work effectively with them.
    • Assist consumers in gaining skills to address problems.
    • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team approach.
    • Ability to set limits and maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of persons or families served.

    Qualifications:

    • North Carolina License to practice as a Registered Nurse
