Our growing law firm is looking for an experienced estate planning attorney with experience working with High Net Worth Clients who have TAXABLE Estates. MUST HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN High-Net-Worth TRUSTS, ESTATES You will get a SKILLS ASSESSMENT to fill out after you apply so if all you have done is basic revocable trusts this is not the job for you! • Are you an attorney with enough High-Net-Worth (“HNW”) Estate Planning and Asset Protection experience that you have the CONFIDENCE to interact with savvy clients daily helping them design and execute strategies to help them to legally elude the tax man and build a more secure future? • Do you have the technical competency to work with HNW clients that present interesting and challenging fact patterns? • Can you take a Trust Administration from start to finish? Helping fiduciaries stay in compliance and out of trouble? • Do you have more than just foundational knowledge of trust and estate law, income, transfer, and generation-skipping taxation, with the ability to apply that knowledge to pre and post-mortem planning? • Do you get excited about opportunities to grow personally and professionally? If your answer is YES to ALL OF THE ABOVE, then this might be the place for you! This is not your typical stuffy law firm. Our down-to-earth approach requires that everyone is included as a critical part of the team.Your suggestions and opinions about how to serve our clients better are not just welcome but are required as we are constantly striving to grow and improve. WHO SHOULD NOT APPLY: If the only reason you take CLEs is because the FL BAR requires you to, this is NOT the job for you. This is a fantastic area of law (sure, I am a little biased) but there is a lot of complexity and always something to learn.I would dare to say that I am (within reason) less concerned with what think you currently know and more concerned with your ability to research, strategize with a friend, take a CLE, etc… to figure it out. The reality is that the specialized and ever-changing nature of the Trust and Estate practice requires that you devote a significant amount of time to development and training. We expect you to have this kind of GROWTH mindset – both personally and professionally. You are not organizedWe are looking for a person who is organized, process-oriented, and can manage our clients' matters without stuff falling through the cracks. If you lose stuff, get distracted easily, for the love of all things holy, save us both a lot of frustration, and DO NOT APPLY! You haven’t mastered the alphabet soup of the trust world. You must know and love the whole gambit: GRATs, CRUTs, SLATs, QPERTs, DAPTs, and a host of others. For estate planning practitioners, the abbreviated tag assigned to the trust says it all. That is, when we refer to a trust as a GRAT or an ILIT, we know from that reference pretty much what the trust is, what it says, and what it is intended to do… but if you don’t know what I am talking about or mistake a GRAT for an ILIT, we’ve got a real problem. Clients generally don’t like you. This position is client-facing, so you must be reasonably personable and understand that law is a service industry. We are here to serve our clients so they must LIKE to work with you. If every other client complains about your attitude or demeanor, this isn’t going to be a good fit for you. This is the place to work if you want a lot of independence and don’t like to be micromanaged. You will be expected to take the initiative on work that needs to be done and run client matters with minimal handholding because believe me, AINT NOBODY (particularly, I) GOT TIME FOR THAT. If you describe yourself as a dedicated and disciplined professional, apply. If your past employer would not describe you as a dedicated and disciplined professional, the same thing applies. We are a group of professionals and want to work with professionals. Responsibilities: Our Trusts and Estates services must be delivered by the most capable people, with technical experience as well as the ability to interact well with a variety of types of families and individuals. You will be a hard-working team player responsible for all aspects of a client’s case including: • analyzing a client’s family situation, assets, etc… and strategizing various solutions, • drafting and revising complex planning documents, • communicating directly with clients and other counsel/advisors, • managing administration matters from beginning to end, • discuss plans with clients for distributing clients’ assets, • drafting and advising clients regarding corporate ownership and structures, • managing the staff that report to you. • help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action Qualifications: • You must have enough experience in Complex Estate Planning, Asset Protection, and Trust Administration to be COMPETENT, CONFIDENT, and mostly AUTONOMOUS in this role. I am not as concerned with the number of years of experience as about the quality of that experience andwhat you actually know how to do. • I’ve been doing this long enough to know that “6 years of experience” (or whatever) can mean you are exceptional and really know your work or you know as much as my Sr. Paralegal. • LLM is not required – especially if you are from another state where the local Law School hasn’t flooded the market with them. • Proficient in / ability to learn new drafting software like WealthDocs; Client Management Software like Clio, CRMs, etc. • Must be a member of The Florida Bar • This is NOT a remote position. The office is in Coral Gables. Compensation: $165,000 - $180,000 yearly
