Position Summary
A highly selective, entrepreneurial law firm with a global footprint is seeking a Trusts & Estates Partner to join and expand its private wealth and family office practice. This role is intended for an established trusts and estates lawyer with a sophisticated, high-net-worth client base who is interested in growing within a collaborative national platform.
The incoming partner will work alongside highly regarded private wealth practitioners across multiple offices with deep internal support in tax, corporate, real estate, and litigation. This position offers the opportunity to provide holistic legal counsel to clients whose wealth planning needs are complex, multi-jurisdictional, and multi-generational.
Compensation Structure:
- 70/30 split on collections
- Entrepreneurial model — set your own rates and hours
- Full autonomy to build and manage your practice
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a partner-level trusts and estates practice
- Advise HNW and UHNW individuals and families on complex estate, gift, and wealth transfer planning
- Structure and advise family offices and private investment entities
- Counsel clients on trust formation, administration, and fiduciary matters
- Develop succession plans for closely held businesses and investment structures
- Address cross-border and international estate planning issues
- Coordinate closely with tax, corporate, real estate, and litigation partners for integrated client solutions
- Build and maintain long-term advisory relationships with clients and their professional advisors
Client Profile:
- HNW and UHNW individuals and families
- Family offices and private investment vehicles
- Entrepreneurs, founders, and closely held business owners
- Focus is on bespoke, high-value planning rather than mass-market wills and trusts
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience
- $750K+ portable book of business
- Partner-level (or senior counsel with clear partner trajectory) experience in Trusts & Estates
- A practice focused on HNW and UHNW individuals — not high-volume or commoditized estate planning
- Geographic presence or client base in key private wealth markets (Florida, Texas, New York, California)
- Demonstrated experience with complex estate and wealth transfer planning
- Family office or private investment structure experience
- Cross-border or international estate planning experience
- Experience with clients whose needs cross into other practice areas
- Existing relationships with accountants, wealth managers, or financial advisors
- JD from an accredited law school
