This is an excellent opportunity for a Paralegal looking to deepen their experience in trusts and estates work while contributing meaningfully to a practice that values compassion, professionalism, and long-term growth. Responsibilities:
- Draft and prepare a wide range of estate planning and administration documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, probate filings, and related legal documents.
- Prepare and file probate and administration petitions; coordinate with Surrogate’s Court; track deadlines, notices, and follow-up correspondence to ensure smooth estate administration.
- Draft estate and trust accountings, receipts, releases, fiduciary reports, and assist with judicial accountings as needed.
- Gather and organize financial information to prepare detailed asset inventories, valuations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist executors and trustees with marshaling, tracking, and managing probate and trust assets; liaise with financial institutions, insurance companies, and other third parties.
- Assist in preparing federal and state estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and supporting schedules, including gathering and organizing required financial data.
- Support ongoing trust administration, including funding, distributions, beneficiary communications, required notices, and fiduciary record-keeping.
- Serve as a compassionate and professional point of contact for clients, beneficiaries, and outside professionals; schedule meetings and gather required information.
- Conduct basic legal research and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, court requirements, and procedural deadlines.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical files, track workflows, prepare closing binders, and monitor matter progress through completion.
Requirements:
- A two- or four-year degree and/or Paralegal Certificate, preferred.
- 3+ years of current Trusts & Estates paralegal experience.
- Strong writing, drafting, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
- Compassionate and professional communication style with clients navigating sensitive life events.
- High level of organization, initiative, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or legal case management systems; willingness to learn firm-specific software.
