Internship - Technology (One Track: Engineering, DevOps, Project Mgmt, OR QA)
Job Description
THE TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY TASKS
The TuneCore Technology Internship gives you the unique opportunity to do a full 10-week immersion in Engineering, Project Management, DevOps/IT, or Quality Assurance. You will have the option to do the full 10 weeks in any one discipline OR a 5 week rotational in any two of the four technology disciplines.
The ideal internship candidate will have been exposed to some level of programming or computer science education (javascript at a minimum or more complex programming subject). As an individual, you should be an inquisitive detective, bring fresh ideas, partake in an actual project, attend planning meetings, complete assignments as tasked by your team, learn from your team and mentors, apply that learning to projects assigned, in an agile development environment.
In the Engineering track, you will have the opportunity to learn from and work with engineers in a production environment resolving issues that face the business and day-to-day operations. There will be multiple chances to make an impact on our customers and team, and to pair on the resolution of small to medium sized bugs in our codebase.
In the Project Management track, you will have the opportunity to learn about project management within the exciting world of music tech. This position is an opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience in assisting with the daily operations of a scrum product team, project management IT tools, and change management. The opportunity will allow you to sharpen your communication and problem-solving and organization skills in a business environment.
In the DevOps/IT track, you will have the opportunity to learn from and work on projects alongside experienced Engineers in AWS Cloud Computing, Infrastructure, and Networks; Infrastructure As Code; Software deployments; Automation and Security (DevOps), as well as Physical Office Networks/VPNs; Hardware and inventory management; Hands-on systems and software troubleshooting, and day-to-day user support (IT).
In the QA track, your tasks will include analyzing requirements; Catching defects; Pairing up with developers to write manual test cases and test sets; Document configuration; Define test strategies, test plans; Verify bug fixes and enhancement requests; Learn how to automate test cases.
ENGINEERING TRACK INITIATIVES
Initiative #1: Improvements / Bug Fixes Distribution / Music Distribution
Work with the Music Distribution squad and learn the software development lifecycle within the context of bug resolution.
Learn from engineers on how to approach problems in a production environment.
Work with our QA team to test your changes.
Learn from the squad about the agile process and working within a team to resolve issues.
Initiative #2: Improvements / Bug Fixes Customer Finance
Work with the Customer Finance squad and learn the software development lifecycle within the context of bug resolution.
Learn from engineers on how to approach problems in a production environment.
Work with our QA team to test your changes.
Learn from the squad about the agile process and working within a team to resolve issues.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRACK INITIATIVES
Initiative #1: Agile Deep Dive in Music Distribution:
You'll be partnered with a senior Scrum Master and work alongside them to learn the skills first-hand.
You will be embedded in the Music Distribution squad and proactively helping the team follow the Scrum methodology. You will be attending and facilitating all Scrum ceremonies of the team accountable for distributing music to our partner providers.
You will have the opportunity to look at, work in, assess and propose best practice of various agile and project management tools.
Drive your own initiative to improve the squad’s product backlog processes in coordination with the Engineering Manager and Product Owner of the Music Distribution squad.
Collaborate with other Scrum Masters, within the technology organization, in driving Scrum and general project management best practices.
Initiative #2: Agile Deep Dive in E-Commerce:
You'll be partnered with a senior Scrum Master and work alongside them to learn the skills first-hand.
You will be embedded in the E-Commerce squad and proactively helping the team follow the Scrum methodology. You will be attending and facilitating all scrum ceremonies of the team accountable for the critical function of financial transactions on the site.
You will have the opportunity to look at, work in, assess and propose best practice of various agile and project management tools.
Drive your own initiative to improve the squad’s product backlog processes in coordination with the Engineering Manager and Product Owner of the E-Commerce squad.
Collaborate with other Scrum Masters, within the technology organization, in driving Scrum and general project management best practices.
DEVOPS / IT TRACK INITIATIVES
DevOps Initiative #1:
Learn from Senior DevOps Engineers and participate in the design, build, and support of our Cloud Infrastructure and Networks.
Assist team members in optimizing AWS resources and configurations.
Learn how to develop Infrastructure as Code, and scripts and automation to create robust and repeatable tasks.
Assist with audits of key systems and tooling.
IT Initiative #2:
Learn from Sr. IT Administrators on how to manage corporate IT Infrastructure, Networks, Software, and Security.
Participate as a member of the Service Desk to address day-to-day support requests.
Participate in numerous ongoing IT projects such as: Single-Sign On Rollout, Mobile Device Management System Rollout, Decommissioning of Legacy Systems.
Work with the team members to create and maintain IT Systems Documentation.
QA TRACK INITIATIVES
Initiative #2: Automation and X-ray Test Case Initiatives:
Assist QA squad members with creating, organizing, and test reporting using X-ray.
Automate test cases as required.
Support containerization of automation code within Docker.
Initiative #2: V2 Architecture Initiatives:
Assist with maintaining code base on TuneCore Social automation, manually verify bugs and perform regression tests.
Assist with executing the testing strategies for Web Redesign, API, mobile, using TypeScript in webdriver.io
Be part of the V2 architecture team, participate in meetings, keep track of documentation, ask questions and anticipate problem areas.
Qualifications
MUST BE PROFICIENT WITH COMPUTERS.
DEPENDING ON THE DISCIPLINE CHOSEN, LEVEL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE/PROGRAMMING WILL VARY.
BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS
CLEAR VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS
ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS VITAL
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF TESTING SOFTWARE IS REQUIRED
ABILITY TO WORK IN A HIGHLY COLLABORATIVE TEAM ENVIRONMENT IS A MUST.
MUST BE A CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A 4 YEAR BACHELORS PROGRAM AT A TECHNICAL SCHOOL, WITH AT LEAST ONE ACADEMIC TERM AFTER END OF INTERNSHIP.
MUST BE A SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR OR SENIOR, PREFERABLY IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING, COMPUTER SCIENCE OR ELECTRICAL/COMPUTER ENGINEERING, PROJECT MANAGEMENT MAJORS.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 3.0 OR ABOVE.
ABILITY TO WORK 35 HOURS A WEEK (OR IS IT 20?)
PROFICIENCY IN JAVA, JAVASCRIPT, PYTHON, RUBY OR OTHER OBJECT ORIENTED LANGUAGE.
ABILITY TO TEST OR BUILD SOFTWARE AND QUESTION FEATURES OR BEHAVIOR IS DESIRABLE.
GRADUATE LEVEL COURSE WORK ON SOFTWARE PROCESS OR QA WOULD BE A PLUS
PREFERABLY HAS PARTICIPATED PROJECTS WITH VERSION CONTROLLING, THAT CAN BE SHOWCASED.
STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
