    The Construction Manager is the individual charged with the responsibility for the complete and satisfactory execution of all construction activities within the region. The Construction Manager reports directly to and works under the direction of the Sr. Vice President of Mining. Working with the Sr. Vice President of Mining, the Construction Manager meets as needed with the Director of Planning & Estimating, Equipment Manager and Safety Director. The Construction Manager also meets regularly with the Project Managers to coordinate the execution of the work at their respective projects. When no Project Manager is assigned to the project, the Construction Manager meets with the Foreman or Superintendent. The Construction Manager is a company representative and must always conduct him or herself in a professional manner to reflect positively upon Turner. All positions that are performing work in the field are considered "safety-sensitive positions," which means a position in which an impairment caused by drug or alcohol usage would threaten the health or safety of any person.

    Responsibilities & Essential Skills:

    • Emphasize that safety is Turner's number one value.
    • Be responsible for production and costs on all projects within the region.
    • Be familiar with all active projects within the region.
    • Work with the Sr. Vice President of Mining and the Director of Planning & Estimating to assign project staff.
    • Make certain each member of the project staff understands their responsibility.
    • Review mobilization plan with the Project Manager and the Project Superintendent.
    • Understand manpower needs for the project.
    • Provide input into the schedule.
    • Prioritize overall regional resources, employment needs and project schedules.
    • Anticipate project needs and potential problems and take steps to address them.
    • Assist the Project Manager in all disputes that may arise internally, with Owners and with Subcontractors.
    • Anticipate and coordinate all regional project equipment needs.
    • Coordinate project equipment needs with Equipment Manager
    • Maximize the use of Turner-owned equipment.
    • Control and minimize use of rental equipment.
    • Administer the programs and policies of Turner.
    • Implement sound cost controls at the project.
    • When necessary, discipline all supervision on the project in accordance with Turner's policy.
    • Promote Turner and look for additional work opportunities.
    • Assist in bidding new projects.
    • Know and understand the duties of the Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Superintendent and Foreman.
    • Assist and provide input to Project Managers regarding major change orders.
    • Coordinate personnel needs and discuss with the Sr. Vice President of Mining
    • Recommend and direct measures to improve production, quality, and safety.
    • Make decisions in the best interest of Turner and/or the Owner while maintaining complete integrity and authority.
    • Teach and train Project Superintendents in the performance of their duties.
    • Regularly visit each assigned project ensuring staff is completing tasks, projects are on schedule and jobsites are neat, orderly, and safe.
    • Conduct annual performance reviews for all field supervision, other than engineers.
    • Assists in employee hiring by working with the People Team to get good craft people.
    • Review and analyze weekly production reports from each project. v Meets with the Foreman or Superintendents when no Project Manager is assigned or available.
