Turning Basin Labs is seeking a Managing Director to lead the organization in its next phase of growth.
Turning Basin Labs (TBL) is a staffing and training co-op based in the Bay Area in California. TBL was founded in 2018 and since inception has helped find work for over 150 US citizens (98% in California), worked with 15 employers, played a role in securing California SB779 policy change, and developed partnerships with Jewish Vocational Services (JVS), Jobs For the Future (JFF), and Martinez Adult Education. TBL has placed returning citizens, long-term unemployed, people of color, vulnerable workers, and others from non-traditional backgrounds. The business is poised to place hundreds more people per year beginning in 2022. We have grant backing from the Irvine Foundation, Kendeda Foundation, and New World Foundation. We also secured social investment support from Start.coop.
Turning Basin Labs is seeking a creative and values-driven Managing Director to follow in the footsteps of the organization's Founding Director. The next Managing Director will bring a passion for TBL’s mission, demonstrated success in workforce development, training and staffing program strategies, advanced knowledge of social enterprises, and a network of relationships with relevant stakeholders.
The Managing Director’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years experience in staffing, workforce, and employer development work with at least one position at the leadership or executive level.

Salary, benefits, and worksite:
The salary for this role is between $120,000-$150,000 with an annual performance bonus based on the business performance and decided by the co-op members. TBL provides comprehensive health benefits, paid time off, and access to training, community, and technical support. The Managing Director will receive ownership share in our co-op. The position can be (part) remote, with some in-person work, and must be located in California. Office space in Oakland can be provided if desired.
